This review is only for the airsoft field and not for the evike oupost.
Pros
Large field for being indoors probably the largest I’ve been to.
Time between games is short so you are not waiting for ever to get back on the field which is great.
They explain the rules and expectations very well so you know what each round will entail.
They allow you to enter and exit the field during game play. This is huge if you run out of ammo, your gun brakes or you show up after a round starts.
The hours of operation are plentiful and meet almost any work schedule. I was happy to see that they are not open only during weekends.
Cons
This first one may not be a con for everyone but it’s definitely one for me. The lighting was terrible it was very dark so every game requires tracers and lights which is fun every now and then but gets old very quickly. When you need to spend an extra $150 dollars to get night gear to be able to compete it’s a big turn off to me. This also makes it hard to call hits. Like I said maybe not a con for everyone.
The refs are 100% useless and there was only one. For how big this place is, the price you pay and the way they market themselves I expected better staff or at least more staff. They had one guy in the middle on a platform who did absolutely nothing the whole time. There should be a ref at each teams spawn point at the start of the match and then they should be there to help call hits for that team the entire match.
The price is 35$+ for four 45 minute games if you go on an evening. They start the games an hour after they open. Who on earth needs an hour to set up their gear? What a waste of money to be paying to sit and wait to play. Other fields I have been to offer a set up time prior to when the games start but it is not what they advertise as a start time.
They don’t have a chrono on field and only chrono before the first game. This is the easiest place to play with a non legal CQB gun I’ve ever been at. The chrono station is in a side room so if you skip that no ones going to notice. Like I said it’s dark and there is only one ref so you can get away with anything here.
Although the field was large it could have been set up in more useful ways. For being a CQB field it sure didn’t seem like one. A lot of the buildings only had one door and window and were not connected or were not pointed toward the opposing teams buildings. The middle was the opposite being completely open and the lanes were way to big. Instead of having ally type spaces between the buildings they were more like wide roads. It was more effective to stay 50-100 feet away from opponents then try to get close. It would have been nice to have both CQB and long range with a field that size.
Probably the biggest con is that they don’t differentiate teams. This is the only indoor field I’ve been to that didn’t mark players with either tape or bands and after the first game they don’t say or do anything about teams. This means if you show up late you can just join the team that’s winning and no one will care. This makes the games outmatched and you never know if you are shooting at a team mate.
The staging room had a few issues. Fist of all there were very few plugs for chargers only a couple on the outside walls even though all the work benches for gear are in the middle. Second you had to wear your goggles in this area WHAT! Not sure why you have to wear your goggles outside the field? Every other place I’ve been you put a barrel plug on and take your mag out making your gun safe. I didn’t hear a single shot in the staging room so this rule made no sense to me. After you are done with a game you are hot and want to lose your head gear so this was highly disappointing.
I am guessing all of the 5 star reviews are due to this being the only place in an hour+ radius to play and because of its size. People may also enjoy the lack of rule enforcement. For me however I have played at many places across the country and prefer a fair playing field so this isn’t the...
Read moreI’ve been playing at Gamepod consistently every Sunday for 2+ years straight. Sometimes I play more days in the week but never missing Sunday!!!! I fell in love with this place instantly. This place is like nowhere else in the world! First off it’s a huge facility with tons of room buildings and cool places to accommodate all play styles. The refs and staff are super helpful with everything. They have helped me fix broken airsoft guns answered all my questions helped me understand this awesome sport but mostly they’ve helped me find a home. I feel free when I’m here, apart of something, honestly I feel true happiness. For the most part 99% of players are chill and are there for a good time but there are a few exceptions. It seems from time to time there are kids that sneak in illegal FPS/RPS tuned guns and shoot closer then allowed. It doesn’t last long before the referees find out and either give the kids a warning or kick them out. I’ve seen kids retaliate and talk negatively about the staff that work there in person and online because, they were immature and mad they got kicked out for doing something illegal. Take it from a regular paying customer like me who plays religiously, Gamepod is THE COOLEST PLACE ON EARTH! The energy and atmosphere is amazing and it’s a reflection to the kind and positive players and staff. Niko is one of the workers at Evike. He sold me my first airsoft sniper. I love it and still have it to this day! He was super passionate which made the sport more intriguing to me. He is very knowledgeable so it was nearly impossible to stress about how to put things together. Raul is also a staff member who I appreciate a ton!! I feel as if he is a genuine human being who genuinely cares about others. I’m actually excited every time I go there to go say hello to them! He has taught me how to play more effectively, gun mechanics, gun safety and pretty much everything about Gamepod. Over the years I have been lucky enough to see them every Sunday! He is a good leader and has to put up with a lot but handles it professionally and from what I’ve seen, he runs this place with everyone’s safety in mind. This is definitely a place I would recommend for everybody to come check out at least once in their life. You might end up falling in love like so many of us have. Thank...
Read moreHosted a private event here with a group of mostly newcomers (over 20) needing rental gear and a few seasoned players. The person handling their email coms was easy to work with, responsive, and accommodating and told me that the event staff would work with me to ensure everything went smoothly.
When the day of the event rolled by and me and my guests showed up things were a different story. A few folks on the staff were friendly but others felt like they really didn't want to be there and I was given short curt replies. It seemed like they assumed I knew what I was doing, and never bothered to ask if I needed any help organizing folks or debriefing or running the event in general.
30 min after our event time had started the newcomers still weren't equipped, nor did any staff do any kind of safety or rule explanation. I had to go up front to ask them how rental players could get their equipment, which they told me to tell the players to come to the table and some of the seasoned players ended up having to go up on stage and take charge of explaining the rules to all the attendees/debrief games
To their credit the staff did help sound the siren for game start and end, and one of the guys helpfully announced the location for rental players to get their mags refilled so they did something but that was the extent of their interactions with our group. They were not present in debriefs, or on the field to help referee/balance teams, or work with me to figure out what game modes. This all had to be done by guests themselves which was a huge shock to me and my guests.
If you are planning on hosting and running your own event you'll be fine, but if you are leaning on the staff to help you run your event it may not...
