We visited the Heather Meadows Visitor Center to inquire the staff about the Chain Lakes Loop trail. When we mentioned our intention to hike the trail counterclockwise, the ranger's response was unexpectedly condescending. She suggested that many hikers regret this choice due to the difficulty of having to descend the Wild Goose Trail on this hike and emphasized her own expertise over online sources like AllTrails. She proceeded to provide information about the trail in the same tone. While we value the information provided, we found the tone to be unwelcoming and unnecessary. Could not reach a human. 0.9 miles from the visitor center - not at any point before - is when I saw a sign saying that they were closed. Roads were clear all the way up, not too much snowfall near the lodge yet.
