This might be a good place to get your hair cut. I wouldn't know because I didn't make it past the scheduling process- I found this place online and was hopeful because the website touts "safe space for all" and LGBTQ+ inclusivity. Unfortunately, like far too many businesses, LGBTQ+ inclusivity often actually just means queer friendly, with no real consideration for or training around working with transgender clients.
I am transmasc and when I called to schedule an appointment, I was called ma'am right away. I gave some grace initially because we all have a phone voice that's a little higher than our normal voice and because we are in the deep south after all, but I thought a place focused on LGBTQ+ inclusivity might have trained staff to avoid gendered terms like sir and ma'am. However, it got worse. Once I gave my name for the appointment (with a very traditional men's name), they continued to call me ma'am. Then, when I had to provide my legal name for my card information (and even said "my legal name"), the front desk person made a point of telling me what a beautiful name it was...
I understand that not everyone would necessarily pick up on these indicators that they might be dealing with a transgender client, but I expected more cultural competency and awareness from a place that emphasized its LGBTQ+ inclusivity.
It was such an uncomfortable and unexpected experience. After discussing with my partner, I called back and canceled. I got the same front desk person who seemed utterly confused when I explained that I was canceling because the salon didn't seem as trans inclusive as I thought it would be based on the website. I sincerely hope management sees and takes this comment to heart- getting the entire staff trained on working with trans and GNC clients would be a great asset to...
Read moreI had the worst hair experience of my life at Vivid Hair Salon. This happened in July 2021 and my hair is still ruined because of this.
One of the hairdressers at the time, her name was Marie, completely ruined my hair by over bleaching the whole hair. All I wanted was to make my hair go into a caramel colour and instead she completely over bleached, leaving my hair with many different blonde shades and she also left the root of my hair black because according to her it would give a nice transition.
The texture of my hair was horrible afterwards, I would describe it as gummy. The smell was also horrible. Over the time my hair started to break and fall and now I have many different uneven layers but I don’t want to cut it until the short layers are long enough.
I stayed at the salon for hours and she didn’t speak a word to me. She wasn’t friendly at all.
I cried in front of her when I saw my hair. She said she would fix the colour but it wouldn’t be possible anymore because my hair was so fragile and I didn’t trust her anymore.
They charged me $400, which luckily the owner of the salon refunded the next day when she saw my hair. She also asked for another hairdresser to try to fix it. To be honest there wasn’t much he could do but he tried.
I still paid for the hair products however, which cost me almost $100.
Afterwards I went into another hairdresser and paid more money to change the colour back to my normal...
Read moreI’ve been living Atlanta 3 years now, but hadn’t made the time to find a salon and stylist that I trusted. Back home I had been seeing the same stylist for 12 years and I completely trusted her with my hair, and I would squeeze in appointments whenever I was in town.
After growing my hair for over an year (wedding hair) I was ready for a change. I came across Vivid during a wine stroll in Morningside. The salon looked clean and the front desk staff was friendly, and it was right in my neighborhood. I decided to take the plunge and go in for a chop and color with someone new.
My appointment was with Stephanie D., and let me tell you she did not disappoint. I went in asking to take off about 9 inches and take my light brown hair to a bold blonde balayage. Since this was my first significant cut in 12 years, she recommended to start by cutting a little less (which I’m so glad we did) and not go right into a drastic change. Nothing worse than not recognizing yourself.
My appointment was late on a Friday and I was there for a little over 2 hours but the entire staff never once made me fee rushed. They took their time and made sure everything was done right! My hair looked beautiful and healthy; and now I have a local stylist I can trust! 5 stars from Vivid Morningside staff and especially Stephanie...
