Cody owns Challenger Pools in Tampa FL. Two of the worst companies I have ever dealt with in my life! I'm not even sure where to start, but I can tell you we are six months into a simple rectangular pool and its still not done or done right.
Permitting took two months and their website says about 10 days. They attempted to say there were delays because of complications, but its easy to see that the city was waiting on them time and again.
Every step of the way was just as painful. If I had not played the role of project manager and stayed on top of them this pool would be even further behind. I called to see when the were going to dig, when they were going to finish rebar, when they were going to concrete, when they had city inspections scheduled, on and on until we got to the pavers and plaster. The paver sub had to be told that the job required a 3-4" base before they set the pavers. They still are uneven, there is no pattern and the gaps are unacceptable. The plaster and quartz finish looks like the pool is 10 years old. After many calls, visits from the installer and emails back and forth with the manufacturer, I was just told that quartz is a subpar choice and I should have known that it would look like a faux finish. What!?!?!
To top it all off, the project manager asked me at the end if there were any change orders that he needed to know about so that he could charge me. That's some top-notch "project manager" wouldn't you say?
I attempted to call and get some assistance from Cody the corporate office. They gladly took my call when they wanted to close out the invoice. After collecting they will no longer return my calls.
Do yourself a favor. If you are in the Tampa Bay Area, Ausit TX, or in a location that has a pool builder owned by Cody, keep on looking for a reputable and reliable company with better communication, management and customer...
Read moreDo yourself a huge favor and shop around. This review coming from someone who built a Cody Pool in 2007. I loved it, my designer was great and the price was reasonable. Oh how things have changed. My small fairly standard free form pool with small water feature, average decking, LED light with cool decking... was bid at 44K... turns out 6K higher and 7K higher than similar bids from 2 other reputable builders that build many pools in Austin. This still didn't scare me from Cody... I figured I would still be able to work something out with them but my designer/sales guy, who says he's been with Cody the longest, wasn't interested. He offered up very litte... even though he had items in the bid I necessarily didnt care for... like a variable speed pump or UV water cleaner. Here was the kicker... when I realized Cody probably wasn't the builder for me, and I expressed this my disapointment in price and flexibility... Like with my last build... I was told I was given maybe too low of a price (at 33K thank you very much!) and that there was a reason my last designer wasn't with the company anymore! This was shady. First nail in the coffin. Lastly, I called the main office on Parmer Ln and asked for the owner's email (Mr. Church), who I had met on my last build, to make sure he knew what was going on... AND I was told by the receptionist that they weren't allowed to give his email out but she would be happy to forward an email to him. Not very open door. Last nail. My other 2 bids were great. I had follow up calls and was treated with respect and there was a sense of wanting to gain my business. I say again... there was a sense of wanting to gain my business... Not by Cody. I have chosen another builder who gave me most things I wanted in my pool... for 7K cheaper. Do yourself a HUGE favor and...
Read moreI moved into a house with a Cody pool that was built within the last few years. When I saw there was a crack in the tile just above the waterline and some spots on the exterior of the spa coping, I wanted to address it asap. Through word of mouth, my impression was that Cody was a great brand and they stand by their brand. In fact, it was one of the reasons we decided on this house. I reached out to Cody promptly after we moved in and they stated their warranty wouldn't transfer to a new owner of the home. Not only did they not offer to fix it, the references they provided also didn't return phone calls or provide any resolution. My frustration after multiple attempts including to management to resolve resulted in my wife even calling and speaking to their management directly. She was provided a high-lighted clause in their warranty where it doesn't transfer. Ownership shouldn't matter due to quality issues with the pool of only a few years since installation; they should fix it promptly! Way to stand by your product Cody! As for the management, word on the street is that Cody was once a great company but the new owners are for profit only. So if you are building a new pool, find a company that will stand by their product and also provide great customer service AND WARRANTY the product for at least 5 years even if you are the second owner; CODY IS NOT THAT COMPANY!!!!
1/16/2020 Contacted Cody about the response on this page and they said I have no warranty and will not correct the defect in construction on the 3 year old pool. I don't understand how a pool builder would not stand by their work after such a short time.
1/22/2021 Contacted the office several times and they never backed the construction of the pool even though it was poor workmanship on the coping. Look at another more reliable...
