First time eating here. I live about 3 minute drive away and ordered take out.

We got the Prime Rib Fajitas, the Beans with Veneno and a taco. After a 20% it came out to just under 60$. Fajitas were for sure overcooked to well done and not much flavor / spice. The Fajitas don't come with sides like lettuce cheese and a pico or tomato which I thought would be fine but I found myself having to make my own sides at home to make it tolerable. For 37$ that's a little much for what you get / and quality. The charro beans that came with the Fajitas listed made with sausage, it was a hot dog / weenie, really weird and not what we expected, not bad but not great either. The Beans with Veneno were missing the chips with our order, luckily we had an old bag still in the cabinet, not a big enough of an issue to go back and get them.

Service was fine when I went in, they were very nice and quick. More a lower in this score due to the lack of sides and clear menu.

Atmosphere - Place was dead at 5:30 on a Saturday, not a huge deal but worrisome. I would eat in but do not expect the price of food to match the interior. Feels like a cheap quick lunch spot.

TLDR; Food was edible but not worth 50$ before tip. This place needs a revamp of the ingredients if they want to charge that much for the food or just lower prices to match what is being sold. Will probably not be...

I grew up on the Southside of San Antonio and I have been searching for mexican food that can rival that in Austin.

Ive been here for 13 years and I believe I have finally found it.

This place has an outstanding selection of traditional Mexican faire and executes amazingly well.

I had a bowl of posole and an asadsa taco. On the menu it is described as beef fajita, but it is absolutely a wonderful asada taco.

The posole has an immensely rich flavor with very clean peices of pork. You can taste all of the love placed into the soup. They serve it well, accompanied by tostadas, cabbage, sliced radish, and diced onions on the side. The portion is hearty and it would make a very hungry patron even find it hard to finish.

The asada taco is one of the best I've had and reminded me of my teenage years. Simple beef asada, cooked and seasoned well, with onions and cilantro. Add some lime and salsa and it's a winning combination.

Couple all of this with a very attentive and welcoming staff.

You guys have a customer from here on out! I highly recommend this...

I'm going to be fair.

Came into an empty restaurant. Greeted right away. My 3yo and I came in. Ordered my son a burger. ($13) asked for just mustard....receipt reflects this. It had EVERYTHING on it. He hated it. I bought a very expensive quesadilla ($16)....it was just 1 big ish taco. My son (3) and I bought 2 dishes and drinks.... about $60 after my son (3) spilled his drink and I had to buy another drink.

Update: I got 14 messages from owner to change my review. Not to make it right.....to change my review. 4.5 stars. But how realistic? Friends give 5 stars..... others get bullied into it?

Owners husband has been bullying me online and asking " why did I tip so much?" Well... because I was greeted when I walked in, and was provided good service for 2 minutes. No table service. No tip... new rule!

When I stood up for myself....he blocked me........ but I still have all the conversation.

I lowered my score after having to deal with harassment.

The atmosphere and food doesn't...

First time at any “Carnitas El Güero”, we had the Carnitas quesadilla and a taco de Chicharrón y un taco de Carnitas. The quesadilla was such a nostalgic taste, the handmade tortilla lightly toasted really took me back to my homeland. The tacos were perfectly balanced and paired well with both salsas, although the red one was our favorite 😍 they’ve just opened so they’re still ironing out some details but we will definitely be back and are looking forward to trying new things once their full menu is available. But in the meantime the tacos and quesadilla will hit the spot! And the garden seating looks like a great time once the weather cools off a bit more. 10/10 will be back. Thanks again Güero!
