Our recent visit to Mount Bonnell in Austin during mid-June left me awe-inspired by the stunning vistas and thrilled by the adventurous trails. This iconic landmark proved to be a remarkable destination, offering unforgettable experiences that truly showcased the natural beauty of the area.
Upon arriving at Mount Bonnell, we were greeted with panoramic views that took our breath away. The vantage point provided by this elevated location allowed us to soak in the mesmerizing sights of Austin's skyline, the winding Colorado River, and the surrounding lush greenery. The vibrant colors of the landscape, coupled with the clear blue skies, created a picture-perfect backdrop that was a treat for the eyes and a balm for the soul. The views alone made the trip to Mount Bonnell worth every moment.
The small trail leading to the lake added an adventurous element to our visit. While it presented some challenges, such as uneven terrain and steep inclines, it made for an exhilarating hike. As we traversed the trail, we were treated to glimpses of native flora and fauna, enhancing the overall natural experience. The sense of exploration and the anticipation of what lay ahead added an extra layer of excitement to our adventure. It's important to note that the trail might be a bit challenging for those with limited mobility or physical constraints, but for those seeking a bit of a thrill, it is an excellent choice.
Overall, our visit to Mount Bonnell was a delightful experience. The combination of breathtaking views and the opportunity for a mini adventure on the trail made it a memorable outing. Read moreAlthough I feel like I should give a lower rating, I won't because I feel like this place delivered on having a great view and a great little hike.
The reason I am giving you a 4 star rating is because we had people in our group literally from one year old to over 80 years old and this place delivered on all age groups.
I was panting going up to stairs because we heard that was the easier way to go up but we had come down the other way which ended up making a little loop back to the parking lot which was really nice. The other way had a little hike going down and allthough at times it was a bit difficult because some areas were a little bit steep and the rocks were a little bit slippery, we took our time. We did not feel rushed because we did not come at sunrise or sunset and came rather in the afternoon so we were able to take our time going down. Granted, this was literally the last day of December and so the weather was really nice but I imagine it would be very hot in the summer so be careful of that. I took mosquito spray and sunscreen with me just in case to use it but we did not end up having to use the mosquito spray.
I wanted to give a lower rating but decided against it only because we saw lots of glass all over the parking lot and on one side saw whole windows on the floor because of how many break ins there were in people's cars and I did not feel safe because of that. There were break ins and there were signs along the parking lot that say to protect your belongings and lock your cars but I feel like if they know this area gets broken into so much there should be some type of security and some type of safety measure taken to protect Citizens. We should be able to be safe and enjoy a nice view. Other than that it was...
Read moreWe visited here to witness the first sunrise of 2025. Reviews mostly mentioned sunset for this place. We weren't sure if it was a suitable spot for the sunrise.
We reached the parking area around 6:30 AM targeting the sunrise of 7:20 AM. We were the first ones to take the 100 odd steps of stairs to reach the top while it was still dark. With a bit of walk towards the left, we were able to find a small spot which promised the best possible sunrise view. As we were early, we could hold the prime spot on top of a table and bench (with ten others).
Gradually around 100+ people gathered in that small spot to witness the different phases of sunrise on the horizon and it was beautiful and serene. Austin skyline towards the right enhanced the view.
The river was towards our back. I can imagine that the sunset view must be more amazing as it is towards the river. Will visit again for the sunset too.
People started dispersing around 7:30 AM. Many adventurous ones had climbed on the top of wooden pergolas to get a view. The spots for a good view of sunrise were actually limited but, enough to hold New Year...
