I called holistic massage to make an appointment and someone from spa central called me back to book. I wanted a graduate level class but no one was available. The woman I talked to did not make it clear that graduate level classes were not available so I showed up and had to pay for the professional massage. I wouldnāt have gone in for the higher price but since I was already there I went for it.
ThĆ© massage was not terrible but the man who gave it to me did not ask about boundaries or comfort level beforehand. I donāt get many massages but I checked online what is normal afterwards and it seems like a general rule for therapist to ask new clients what they are comfortable with (in the past I have had that Convo before). First problem was He rubbed the top of my breasts. I had to put my hands over them so he wouldnāt go farther (I do not know if he would have gone all the way over them but he kept creeping down until I felt the need to place my hand). He did not acknowledge the fact that I moved my hands to stop him and did not ask if I was comfortable with his hand placement. When he massaged my legs he did a quick movement all the way to the top to where the leg meets the pelvic bone several times. Admittedly it did not seem sexual, he did not linger and he did not touch my genitals but I was I uncomfortable with how he went literally all the way up leg until he touched my underwear without any warning. I do not think it is normal to rub the underwear line. Additionally when he massaged my leg he exposed my underwear and but multiple times. It was unnecessary and I have not had that happen in past massages. When he rubbed my back he pulled the sheet maybe half way down my but and he started to pull my underwear too. I know that in full body massages the buttocks is often massages but he did not ask before moving my underwear. I pulled the sheet to where I comfortable (where my back and but meet).
At one point he said he wanted to do hip stretches but did not explain that I would be exposed. He flipped me over and luckily I was not wearing a thong but I was exposed much more than I would have liked. I didnāt feel comfortable stopping and chose to do the other side but during the stretch he did a rocking motion several times until my underwear were ridding up my but and then he grabbed my but instead of my hip. At that point I said to stop.
His demeanor was not sexual at any point but it was not professional. I called spa central to give my feedback and it did not seem like the woman I spoke to took my claims very seriously. I havenāt been before and I will not be going back but it does seem that they have a larger staff pool so you may not have the same experience.
ĆDIT/RESPONSE TO SPA CENTRAL REPLY: As far as the pricing, as discussed on the phone you Iām sure you mentioned that there was only professional massages available but it was not clearly explained. You did not mention the price. All in all the higher price is mostly important so that anyone who calls for an appointment can double check verbally the price and the class so they are not surprised. Happy to admit (as I did on the phone) I misunderstood what you said.
As for the rest of my review, Iām glad that you spoke to the masseuse. If you could talk to him about the rest of the points made in addition to the hip stretches I would appreciate it. In terms of taking my feedback seriously you at no point said āIām sorry that happenedā or āwe try to make sure our clients are comfortableā or āyou should have been informedā or even āi will make sure to talk to the masseuse.ā You did awkwardly ask me multiple times if I wanted to book a graduate level class for the new year even after I said that I would not book with spa central again. I only made this review on google because of how unresponsive you were on the phone. If you would like to discuss any further please feel free to call me. I did not walk away feeling like my masseuse had any bad intentions but for many a massage is a vulnerable experience and communication is key to a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI feel like 5 stars isnāt enough! I wish I could choose 10! I was introduced to this spa at a very painful time during my surgery recovery and it literally changed my life! The professionalism is top notch! They know their stuff! The flexibility is even better! With so much pain at times I couldnāt make it but was able to have accommodations made so that I could still have my lymphatic massages to help during my recovery, which were mandatory might I add! Had it not been for Janine, and Spa Central I donāt think I couldāve made It day to day in all the pain I was having. Iād walk into Spa Central limping, sore, stiff and uncomfortable but Iād leave out, walking, extremely comfortable, PAIN FREE and feeling like a brand new person! For me, Spa Central will be remembered as the place who played an intricate and NECESSARY part of my life changing surgery and helped me heal and recover at my best! Iād recommend them to ANYONE, facing any kind of discomfort, healing from a surgery or simply wanting to treat themselves to a moment of pure relaxation and comfort! I love Spa Central if I havenāt already made that clear...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was not satisfied, their Spa was under renovation& I was given services at their school clinic. However, I was still charged the same price as if I was going to attend the Spa. I feel I was not afforded the Spa treatment ambience because services rendered was in the same location& room as the student clinic that I frequently. The Massuese was average & in my opinion wasnāt any better that the students. His services was not worth $135. I am dissatisfied, the massage was very painful& he felt like a beginner if I was to compare him to the other massages I had at that clinic. It wasnāt all bad he stretch me very well& the hot towels were great. However he focused on getting knots out& it hurt very bad. I was vocal on why I there.
I was already in pain & just wanted some relief. He was persistent in removing knots that gave me more pain. Now I need another massage to counteract that massage.
It would be nice if they offer me a free massage in the student clinic. Iāll pass on Spa Central in the future& stick with the student clinic. This was my birthday treat& it was not a great Soa...
