I and my family, along with our event guests, have now supremely enjoyed a couple of Sarah's magnificent cakes, and we're definitely not stopping there! Most recently, I was planning a very special VIP birthday party - my mom's 75th! Her lifelong favorite cake is a hot milk cake, with mocha frosting, which her own mom used to make from scratch. As hot milk cakes are somewhat obscure, the likelihood of a local baker offering one definitely seemed very low. A long internet search confirmed that no one offered them as a standard menu option, so I reached out to several bakeries in the area to ask if they'd be willing to at least give it a go. Sarah was the only baker who not only agreed, but readily and graciously rose to the challenge!
Y'ALL. Sarah absolutely slayed this cake!! From my very first bite, I had to close my eyes in total ecstasy. The cake was a rare and heavenly example of an ideal sponge cake, with a frosting that was luxuriously light, fluffy, and exquisitely flavorful. This vegan hot milk-mocha masterpiece was an embodiment of ambrosial perfection!
I wish I could include more photos, but LAWD. The group devoured that dessert faster than you can say, "Happy birthday." I felt like I had to snatch up my own slice and bolt off with it just to get a taste! When everyone finally came up for air, and then for hours thereafter, they could not stop raving about this cake! (A note: Of the entire guest list, I was the only vegan 😉)
Throughout the planning process, Sarah was patient and gracious toward me (especially considering I was out of town at the time and planning this from across an ocean, with a significant communication delay). She was also refreshingly communicative! I sent her a few general reference photos along with the event theme, and she created this lovely design herself - and even took care of acquiring the topper! Read moreWe ordered a Plant Baked by Sarah cake for our cake themed engagament photo shoot. I've been vegan for 11 years, but my fiancé and family are not (some of them are even a bit skeptical of and afraid to eat vegan desserts). We ordered a six inch, heart shaped cake with vintage style piping and our wedding date written on top. It was almond cake, raspberry filling, and vanilla buttercream. Our cake looked beautiful in the photos and held up for over half an hour in the sweltering July heat. It was definitely gorgeous, although the writing was a bit wonky and it got a tiny bit damaged on our car ride home from picking it up (I don't think it was fully cold and hardened when we picked it up), but it turned out great on camera. BUT the ABSOLUTE BEST part of it all was the taste. OMG this was not only the best vegan cake I've ever had, but the best cake overall. EVER. Moist, delicious, flavorful, perfect crumb. Just wow. Because of the vintage piping, there was a TON of buttercream which my fiancé ate in chunks all by itself. Seriously the most amazing frosting. Even my mother, who won't try most vegan baked good I make, had multiple pieces and loved it. I am already trying to find occassions to order more cakes and cupcakes from Sarah because I miss having the cake in my fridge, and I can't wait to try all the flavors and cake/filling/frosting combinations....
Read moreWOW! Just Wow! I've had a number of vegan baked goods and have to say that Plant Baked by Sarah is delicious (I AM NOT VEGAN BTW, normally if given a choice, I would choose baked goods made with milk, eggs and butter 100% of the time, lol).
Be that as it may, I had a guest at my party who has a severe egg allergy so I needed to make sure any treats I provided were completely egg-free.

I ordered 24 cupcakes: (6) Strawberry "buttercream" on Strawberry Cake, (6) Peanut Butter on Chocolate, (6) Chocolate on Vanilla and (6) Cookies & Cream on Chocolate. All of the cupcakes were delicious! Cakes were moist and rich and the frosting was light like Italian buttercream. They were well packaged and when I went to pick them up, Sarah cautioned me to keep them in a nice and cool environment so that the frosting would not melt in the heat.
My egg-allergic guest (age 8) devoured a couple of cupcakes and asked for more!
