Last year I bought some tropical plant mix for my indoor Kentia palm. I transplanted the palm into a larger pot, but when I opened the potting mix, gnats flew out. I had to move the bag to the garage and spray the gnats, they were so bad. The 2nd bag was also infested. I called 7Dees and the manager offered to pick up the plant and replace the soil. I requested they not use the bagged potting mixes, since they were contaminated with larvae. She said they would mix a special potting soil for the palm. It was returned to me with new medium, but I am STILL dealing with larvae and gnats for the past year. I have removed the palm and cleaned the pot and dish more than once, and yet the problem persists. These gnats are small and not attracted to vinegar with d/w soap. I tried spraying Zevo around pot opening and inside, but to no avail. I am ready to toss my very expensive palm, because this problem won't go away. DON'T BUY potting soil from 7Dees. It is not the first infested bag I've purchased. When I called again to complain, I was told that I was overwatering and causing the problem. I'm not impressed with that response, since I didn't have any gnats before I decided to move the palm to a larger pot. They treated me like I was the problem. Also had a recent issue with a woman named Wren, who was very unkind. What a shame as I live very close and have shopped there for years. I won't buy here anymore unless I need a plant I can't find elsewhere.
9/26/24 still having gnat issues after applying a ‘safe’ pesticide given to me from 7Dees. If I didn’t love this expensive palm so much, I’d toss it out. I followed directions and applied every Saturday for 3 weeks. Ya they’re still...
Read moreThe customer service at Dennis' 7 Dees is really great! I had gotten a gift certificate for my birthday and lost it, but I emailed them and one of their managers, Kelley, was sooo fast about making sure I got it replaced and available for pickup at the location closest to me. I'd never been before, but I was really impressed with the selection at the Cedar Hills location and the quality of the plants!
The stuff here is more expensive than what you'd find at a big box store, but it's much higher quality, and it's worth it in the long run. Last year, I'd bought a bunch of plants and soil from Home Depot and about 75% of the stuff I'd gotten was either sick, was infested with bugs, or just straight up died from soil-borne fungus. I bought soil, plus a rose and a hellebore at D7D with my gift certificate and both are still in excellent health and are flourishing. Plus, everything I've planted in the soil I got at D7D seems to be doing really well and there's no sign of fungus or infestation.
Also, everyone at the Cedar Hills location is really friendly and helpful! My husband and I were just browsing and we saw some flowers we liked in the back area, and an employee noticed us looking and told us what flowers they were and answered our questions... all without us having to seek someone out. Great place to go if you're looking for high-quality stuff or if you're a newbie gardener like me who doesn't really know what they're doing and needs a little guidance from professionals. Plus, you can feel pretty good that the plants you buy from there are well-cared for and won't die after you get them home!...
Read moreTerrible, vague and misquoted return policy at time of purchase. When I purchased my outdoor plants and told the cashier that I planned to return some, the cashier said directly that I could return unwanted plants, no problem. Then, when I took a fraction of my almost $1,000 purchase back to return, I was told I couldn't get a refund, because it was after 30 days (it was ~40 days). The 30 day return policy isn't stated on the receipt, either. Moreover, I had two plants die in the pot within days of getting them home, but they wouldn't honor their 'warranty' unless they were planted first and died in the ground? The return cashier couldn't care less, dismissed the fact that the original cashier told me incorrect information, and wouldn't process a refund. Now I have a store credit that I will grudgingly use, and not patronize this chain again. This chain seems to have much worse customer care than other large local plant nurseries in the Portland area which accept returns no questions asked, with a smile, and are grateful for return customers year after year. I love gardening and spend thousands on my garden annually - this year I thought that I would switch to Seven Dees as my regular nursery after having a very nice purchase and delivery experience, but after this terrible return experience, I will not be patronizing this business again, or recommending it to friends...
