I've debated writing this review after every visit to Sunrise but today is the day. First, I will say their product is amazing and it is the only thing that keeps me coming back. If I were to find a bagel shop that compared they would loose my business in a heartbeat. If this review was based solely on their bagels it would be 5 stars hands down but let's get to their problem. I can honestly say as a customer I have never had another business make me feel the way Sunrise does when I make a purchase from them (this is not a compliment). I don't live close so when I do stop in it is always spur of the moment when I happen to be passing by. When I go in I always ask for a dozen of the same type of bagel. Should be a simple request, right? Wrong! It's always followed by some kind of what feels like a "lecture" about how if I want that many of one type of bagel I need to order in advance. Today I was told "hold on let me ask my baker if I can sell that many of that type right now" (they had a basketfull). SAY WHAT?? Are you kidding me? Who tells their customer they need to order ahead of time or checks to see if they can sell what they have for sale. This is just mind blowing to me. I have never gone into a donut shop and been told to pre-order or hold on let me see if I can sell them. Every time I go into Sunrise they have day old bagels sitting for sale on discount. Clearly they have plenty of extra product each day. To be clear I'm not saying I cant pre-order. I'm saying that I shouldn't have too, I shouldn't be hassled for not and I don't pre-plan my trips so it shouldn't be expected. If you are just going in for one bagel I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit but if you are going in for a dozen be careful you might just hear about it like I have everytime. Oh, and watch out for the older gentleman, who I believe is the owner, he is the rudest! At least the other employees are polite...
Read moreThis business gets a lot of things right. The staff are friendly, the bagels are delicious (I mean REALLY good), and not just the bagels, but the accoutrements as well! The dining area is clean - the owner makes sure of it!
The cream cheese is excellent.
The lox is excellent.
Would love to be able to select bagels that are in front of me while I'm standing in line rather than "6 bagel maximum" unless you call ahead one hour in advance. I don't want to call ahead. Nobody who is standing there looking at delicious bagels wants to call ahead and, in fact, they cannot due to scientific/practical problems with time travel. I want those bagels - right now. I can see that there are more than 6 through the window. I've never seen such a seemingly small rule hurt a business so much. At the very least allow people an online portal for ordering; nobody wants to talk on the phone anymore; we want to select our bagels from a menu on our phone while we're in a zoom meeting.
When I called in the next day (to request bagels ahead of time), they said it wouldn't take an hour, but an hour and a half.
The egg on the egg sandwich is something created in a factory rather than a regular egg.
Lastly, a proper coffee station is in order with a barista. I don't believe any extra information needs to be provided here.
As I said, this is a very good place to grab a bagel, but it could be...
