I'm very pleased with my purchase of a queen 8 layer futon from Matsu! When I went to the Matsu store, it had different traditional japanese furniture, displays of different fabrics that could be used for futon covers and other furniture, as well as some small trinkets. There was a peaceful ambiance. The person who helped me was very nice. My futon was ready for pickup in about a week and a half. I did not purchase a futon cover with it because I couldn't afford it at the time, but I think I will purchase one from Matsu in the future. Their fabric options looked very beautiful and of good quality when I was browsing in the store. Before this, I've only ever slept on traditional western mattresses, so it was a bit of a change. I can feel the firmness of the floor, and sometimes that can be a little bit uncomfortable if I'm sleeping on my side, but I find my mattress very comfortable when I'm sleeping on my back. My back pain, which has been an issue for me for several years, has been greatly reduced. I also, strangely enough, find that my futon has a really nice smell. I think it's the cotton inside, but I'm not sure. It is very subtle and relaxing! The futon upkeep is different than what I'm used to, but I sort of enjoy the process of putting it away in the morning and taking it out and making my bed when it's bedtime. It definitely helps to have a nearby closet for this purpose. I've only had my futon for about 2 weeks now, but I'm really loving it. I feel quite lucky that I live close enough to Matsu (about 30-40 mins away) that I was able to drive there and try the futon out in person before buying. I think it was a good choice to go with Matsu over an international retailer that would probably have higher shipping costs. Anyway, I would definitely recommend Matsu and encourage anyone looking to try a japanese futon for the first time to give it a shot, especially if you want more useable living space in your house, if you have back pain, or if you want a much cheaper and longer lasting option than a western mattress. If I remember, I will update my review once I know how the futon is holding up...
Read moreI bought a full-size cotton/wool futon online. I later discovered I could get an organic cotton/wool futon with no flame retardants, and switched my order to that. Even though they had already started my order, Betty switched my order to Organic. I also had to get a doctor's note in order to purchase it with no flame retardants. Betty was very helpful and welcoming. From what Ive read from the other reviews, Betty is also the owner. After a bad experience purchasing a mattress from J Life International, shopping with Matsu was refreshing. Every futon is custom made based on how many layers you want, what size, and what materials. They also sell many futon covers, and I plan to buy one soon. The price is very decent for the high quality of...
Read moreI live outside of California, so I can't say anything about the store itself, but ordering through Matsu was a Great experience! I called with a few questions before ordering a shikibuton (futon) through the online store - the woman I talked to was very patient and helpful. She answered all of my questions, and guided me through choosing the perfect futon for me. After just one week, my custom-made mattress was shipped. I was delighted beyond all expectations when it arrived; this is a Real Japanese shikibuton (not an imitation!), and the quality is beyond superb. I can't praise this company enough. I would recommend Matsu to absolutely anyone, I'll be a customer of...
