11/11/2018 UPDATE: There has been some contention recently in the bundle of neurons in my head that decides who gets preference when the "I want a burrito" bundle is fired. Gordos seems to have hung on to its seemingly permanent spot as the top spot, but there are others whose prominence has been deterred only because of proximity. And because I didn't go anywhere else for decades and decades, or so it would seem. So all I can say here is that they are still churning out the same high quality, tasty, healthy, economical fare that I craved when I was too young to understand what I was enjoying. Anyway, just go. If you call ahead and they don't answer the phone it's because there's a line of hungry people snaking out the door. Please don't let that deter you: it's worth the wait. END OF 11/11/2018 update
I've been coming here since High School....when I'd have just enough time to get a burrito and get back to class in the very limited 45mins (?) we had for a lunch break.
The food is well worth the effort. It's filling, not unhealthy, and delicious. The staff has never let me down when I want to try something new or order something really bizarre. It's one of the last places where you can get a fair deal for your cash.
UPDATE: There seems to be some issued with guacamole lately. I visited a few months ago and from my position at the end of the line I heard someone at the front of the line exclaim "no more guacamole?!?!?!?". I was crestfallen somewhat. But hopeful. And naively so. I had wanted to try the much touted but as of then untested taqueria chain down the hill. Never again.
So this time I visited Gordo's earlier in the day when I could be sure they'd have my favorite Mexican condiment / sauce / manna from heaven. And my long time Gordo's burrito cravings ended.
So while I am dismayed that they run out of guac occasionally, this is a testament to their quality and tastiness. And I know that to make decent guac you need good avocados. And good avocados are hard to find on the scale that Gordo's needs them.
Anyway, I'm still impressed and I'll...
Read moreThe food has always been tasty, with generous portions at a good price. They move quickly, and the place seems tidy each time I’ve gone. Unfortunately, their customer service has been consistently poor enough to make me stop being a customer almost completely.
I’ve never had a truly awful experience with the staff, but I can’t recall a single positive interaction (such a friendly “hello” or someone asking me if I’ve been helped). I’ve had many experiences where the staff appeared burdened by me showing up when it was empty at 3pm.
I understand it’s not easy to accommodate a site for Covid, but they could at least put up a sign for pickups. Even after I found the “proper” place to wait for pickup, I once stood and watched five or six people walk in and order food before someone would help me (despite minutes of eye contact and trying to wave down any employee. They were at capacity, and I wasn’t inclined to physically wedge myself between other customers during this pandemic, nor did I want to shout over the commotion).
I swear I’m not some Karen taking out my problems on the food service industry, I’m just looking for a business that will take my order and get me food promptly, all without making me feel like a nuisance. A pretty small bar, if you ask me.
I try to be understanding in these chaotic and uncertain times, but a shred of attention for a paying customer goes a long way. But even with virus-related issues aside, I’ve been lukewarm at best in regards to their customer service. It’s a shame, because I recently moved a few blocks away and was intending to eat here...
Read moreThis Gordos seemed to want to rush people in. as quickly as possible.! I'd expressed my disappointment rather loudly in a non professional manner because the gentleman did not listen to my request! I'd tried to apologize several times but due to his demeanor in face and body language was too upset to acknowledge my apology? He'd refused to make eye contact and loudly spoke Spanish to the girl ringing up the order. I'd waved my hand tried to get his attention and he made a point to ignore me..also the burrito He got wrong had rice on it ..He'd proceeded to abruptly throw the rice back in the heating unit while turning his back to me and again chosing not to me trying to stop him from doing such an angry motion. He got mad and even though verbally he said nothing the whole attitude lacked customer service! Gordos in general is better than this! There are many ways to lose a customer.Customer service should not be the reason. Solutions might be:. 1.slow down Listen Stop shouting ..creating an Rush unfriendly astomsohere! When a customer is talking to any employee please listen and leave the attitude for...
