Hemlock Park features a lovely Riverwalk that is well worth a visit. It features a beautiful, up-close view of the Muskegon river and has something for all ages. A playground, paved walking trail, artwork, tennis courts, and more! If you are present during the fall, the park has some gorgeous foliage! The large tree by the pavilion has bright yellow leaves that appear to glow when the sun hits it. If you are searching for great fall color changes – you’d be remised not to stop here. The park also looks really pretty in snow! The park is equipped with a lovely wooden playground that resembles a castle fortress – perfect for the imaginations of the little ones you may bring here to play. The Riverwalk also features various signs that depict paintings from the Detroit Institute of Arts, including an 1851 painting titled The Trapper’s Return. This was a nice feature that we wish more parks would include. Things to consider: It’s much bigger than you may assume at first. There is an awesome mural underneath the overpass – the paved walkway will bring you right there. There is a mini boardwalk that will bring you over the water and has benches if I...
Read moreIt's a huge area and lots to do. Picnic tables and grills make good for birthday parties in the summer. Restrooms and a drinking fountain are available. It's a fun place for kids is why I gave it 4 stars, safety concerns is why it lacks the fifth star. But being a huge area and a big playground makes it easy for a small child to get lost if left unattended. There's also been several sightings of strange men wandering back and forth here lots of times and has been warnings so PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR KID OUT OF YOUR SIGHT especially the river being right there. My family and I go swimming at the river here and we were being watched by two weird men and when we started to leave they followed us. There's also been kids who's parents, or whosever supervision they're under, send them around the park to snatch wallets and purses. I wish security and safety measures would be taken into consideration since it's a place for kids. Pay attention to your surroundings and personal belongings and DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES...
Read moreThis open space is ideal for families with younger children. There is a playground here that is an amusement park for children under the age of tweenagers. This park is just one of several located along the city-wide walking/bike path. The path follows the Muskegon River through the beautiful city of Big Rapids and there's something to do for everyone and every age group. There are even motorized electric scooters that can be rented all around town and I was able to pick one up and pay for the rental with an app on my phone, then leave the scooter in a different location for no extra charge. I HIGHLY recommend a visit to this city on a fair weather day to best enjoy all the fabulous outdoor amenities. Today I was able to ride a scooter around town, visit an open air farmer's market, sign up for a rafting trip for tomorrow and spoil myself with fine dining at a local eatery in the outdoor...
