Ridiculous library with asinine rules that make zero justifiable sense to anyone with common sense as well as a taxpayer and therefore pays the salaries of both operation and salaries of the employees. How are there 3 study rooms near the teen area, yet no adult is allowed in past 2pm, except one day out of the week when most adults daily have video conferences with jobs, remote interviews, need to study, etc? It's disrespectful, egregious and laughable how adults are given less privileges than the teens who may or may not go but they will gladly take our tax dollars to keep the place operational. And if you ask them to justify and explain why you cannot use the room (even when no teens are present and the rooms are CLEARLY empty) they simply shrug their shoulders and give you zero response or worse, say it's to "stop the judgement of teens while walking toward the rooms". The attitudes of the front staff could also be better as well and far more accommodating, they act as if they hate their job, hate being there and hate serving anybody.
This is needs to be addressed and fixed asap, with policies like this no wonder less and less people are attending...
Read moreIt’s my first time here and the library and the one security person I’ve interacted with today are nice. I was eating in the courtyard and was politely redirected to a place I could eat, outside. My one complaint, which to me is a big deal (exhibit the 2 star rating in-spite no other qualm), is that there is no space to eat inside. I started working in the area and bring my food with me but because I’m visiting therapist and don’t drive, I often find spaces like libraries that are nice and quiet to read, eat (or drink - mostly fruits, vegetables, pb&j sandwiches, water, coffee; foods that aren’t smelly or loud (e.g. chips)), work on my laptop, and pass time. A day like today is chilly so having shelter to eat would be nice. It’s something to consider for rainy, and very hot or cold days. I go to very many libraries around Boston and greater Boston area because of the nature of my job. Other libraries have a similar policy but have designated indoor spaces that one can eat at. It would be a nice...
Read moreThe Mattapan branch of the Boston Public Library is one of those 26 locations across the city where you can get lost in the world of literature. What makes this library really special is the big, open space outside surrounded by plants. It's perfect for a quick break or catching up on some studies.
I also want to give a shout-out to the staff. They were so kind and generous.
The quietness level could definitely be improved to elevate it to the best...
