Verchio's is definitely a family staple for us, and their produce section is always wonderful. But the hoagie employees Absolutely not.
On August 1st, the gentleman stationed at the deli were super nice, but then there was the woman who took my hoagie order, Ashlynn. Her attitude was miserable and less than kind. We waited a solid 15 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgment or eye contact. When she finally got around to asking what hoagie I wanted, I actually had to say, "Hi, how are you?" because isn’t that how normal people greet each other?
To make it worse, they have this passive-aggressive sign right in front of the counter. It basically says, "Unfortunately for you, we're not fast food and we're working as fast as we can." But honestly? Ashlynn and another guy, who also seemed pretty arrogant, looking up and continuing to also ignore customers, were just chatting and taking their sweet time. It felt like they were doing the opposite of working as fast as they could. With a positive attitude, I’m willing to be patient, having to wait is not a problem here.
When I finally got my sandwich, I had to be the one to say "THANK YOU," and Ashlynn’s reply was just an ignorant "yup." I asked for her name because it's a real shame for one young, arrogant person to dim the reputation of what's usually a great place.
She won't stop me from coming back, but you can bet next time I'll be asking for a different sandwich maker. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but looking at other reviews, this seems like an ongoing problem.

Read moreThe place is really nice and I LOVE that you can select your own fruits/vegetables. The reason why I gave this location one start is because, in the past I’ve always brought my little dog in with me, of which is in a dog bag and the only body part that is showing is her tiny head. Today, Saturday, November 25th the old man that normally sits at the entrance asked, “do you have a baby in your bag” and I smiled and said, yes, this is my baby!” (Thinking he was going to say she was cute like everyone else have said in passing). Why would you even sarcastically ask me if I have a “baby” in my bag and then proceed to say, I couldn’t bring my dog in and I have to leave. I told him I’ve brought her in many of times and said there are no signs that says pets aren’t allowed. I just left the store and will NEVER return. Although I love this location I will not allow myself nor my pet to be treated as such especially when I’ve gone in numerous times in the past with my pet. I know there is food everywhere and I totally get it; that’s why the only thing that is always exposed is her tiny head so she can breath. I would leave her in the car but it’s too cold out. Anyhow, hopefully this mom and pop business will train there employees accordingly and perhaps put signs out and make them visible so that it’s seen, “if, in fact pets...
Read moreIf you live anywhere near the Brooklawn, Bellmawr, Gloucester City etc, etc.. area and have not visited Verchio's I suggest you give it a try. Truth be told I'd be shocked to meet someone that hasn't been to this place! LOL.. Before I go any further have to add one little, teeny weeny problem. The "Second" traffic circle where Verchio's is located frequently floods. I mean really floods.. 🌊 Built on swampland the Delaware river or a tributary of it is right behind and alongside the store. So needless to say a nice little downpour and the place is inaccessible for hours. Don't drive thru the water!!! Over the years locals have kinda made a sport outta laughing at bobbing cars. Having said all THAT the store is a great place for produce, lunch meat and increasingly hoagies. Christmas Eve they actually ran out of rolls and couldn't make any more sandwiches. Verchio's operates on volume and variety. Prices are noticeably cheaper and quality is good. I often see fruits and vegetables I've never even heard of and everything looks fresh. They are always well staffed which makes sense given how busy they are. Seasonal offerings abound with a pumpkin selection during Halloween second to none. So... Stop by and shop lots unless you see water in which case I would not. (I'm a terrible...
