Climbed the hill taking the less steep "bunny" trail up to the very top where the benches are for the view to the west with the phoenix in the foreground. We then made our way back down zigging and zagging across the hill as we walked the "terraces" taking in the sculptures. At the end took a shortcut down one of the mountain bike trails. We loved some of the sculptures, others perplexed us, but all got us thinking. A few of the signs explaining the works were faded but for the most part we could read what the artist wanted to convey. Some of the trail signs were so faded we couldn't read them but we pretended to be water and just headed down hill to the parking lot. There is a porta potty at the parking lot at the bottom. You want to bring water to drink in warmer months as we didn't see any be place to get water at the top. The road going up was closed by a gate so to do this park you will need to be able to go uphill and uphill and uphill; very small kids and older folks who huff and puff may want to do something else. Kids five and up will be fine and some energetic four year olds are likely fine as well....
Read moreThis is an absolutely amazing place to explore! I love art, I love to hike & I love to geocache and this place has all three! It took me about 3 days to successfully hike every trail & see every sculpture, this trail system is extensive! One trail takes you up a hill to the sculptor’s house, which contains many sculptures & pieces. The very kind & informative woman working at the desk that day explained to me that they have artists from all over the world come to Brookline & they stay with a local family for a few weeks as they work on their piece. When it is finished, it gets put on the trails, & that’s how they have created such a vast collection of different kind of art done by different kind of artists! I thought that was an extremely unique & special aspect of this institute. My absolute favorite piece at the time I went was Alignment by Hoa Bich Dao from Vietnam (2012). If you are an art lover, this place will give you a truly...
Read moreSuch an amazing place. We stopped here because it was 1/2 way from home & where we were going; not that it was a long drive, it was just a nice way to break it up, with a lovely hike & some beautiful sculptures.
We only saw a fraction of what this area had to offer. Fortunately we don't live far so we'll be back! ✌️ 🤗
No admittance fee, it's by donation (which we did), which is so great, making art accessible to all. I LOVE IT.
We were here mid-day, mid-week. Saw a few other hikers but only from afar. No dog owners letting their dogs off-leash or disrespectful children during the day & time we were here. Very calm & quiet & peaceful; almost felt like we had it all to ourselves. 🤗
Fresh air, vitamin D, hiking, peace, quiet, & art. What more can...
