This is a really neat place! It has nearly everything you could want at a park and then some. One of my favorite features here is the historical Hermitage barn complex. It consists of a picturesque farm house manor, 3 barns and 3 old shacks that were moved to this site from a farm around the turn of the century. They were used for a while in a farm and then abandoned, only to be purchased later and incorporated in the park. Most of them are still in their original antique rustic state. The colors and textures are wonderful. One of the barns and the farm house were recently restored with meticulous historical accuracy to their original glory. If you're ever wandering through the park on a Friday afternoon, you will undoubtedly be led to this area by the smell of BBQ. This is Glasgow parks farmers market. It's on Fridays from 3 to 7, usually outside among the huge trees by the farm house. When the weather won't cooperate, it's all moved inside the restored barn. It is becoming famous for great food, fresh locally grown produce, arts and crafts, fun and entertainment. The park also has many beautiful trails that run through lush woodlands and swamps. There's even an outdoor church in the woods! Some of my favorite features at the park are the made ponds. Loads of birds and other wildlife can be seen here. At the beginning of Summer, millions of baby frogs and toads leave there swamps and head for these ponds. In the Fall, vast flocks of migrating birds fly overhead, like a giant flowing mass, that sometimes lasts for over an hour. There are a few paved walking paths around the perimeter of the woods if you choose not to hike the dirt trails. The paths connect the ponds and lead up a steep little hill which gives a wonderful birds eye view of the park. Numerous pavilions are available for events and have the capacity to handle large groups with bathrooms and tables. For the kids, there's a great selection of playgrounds with well maintained games and activities that's very popular in the warmer months. There's a vast field of grass and a fenced in dog park inside the main paved walking track. For the extreme kids, there's even a decent skate park. It's conveniently situated right next to route 40 with three entrances and numerous parking lots. Safety is rarely a concern here considering the Delaware State Police station directly across the street! The officers seem to enjoy it as well because you will often see them sitting in their vehicles or walking around the areas. The next time you're off work and looking for somewhere to go to enjoy that beautiful day, do yourself a favor and visit...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at the park. We have lived here for 3 years and never went until now. The park is set up with a paved walking trail and a street road for a car to drive thru beside the walking path. Good for someone disabled who still wants to share in the experience. There are also trails thru the woods if you choose that. We did and it was very nice. There was a sign up about bats in the park you may get to see. We didn't see any but we did see deer. There is a hill for the adverous to conquer but it does have a paved path up one side and leads out to the other side(the parking lot). There are several porta-pottys. One being handicapped accessible. There was no bathroom tissue or purell so might want to bring your own supplies 😉 Also, has a playground for children but we did not go in that section. I have included a picture of a tree that was blown over in the woods. Never seen anything like it. May have happened during the recent tornado but it was neat to see. Could defnitely do homeschool field trips thru there. Enjoy this spot of woods...
Read moreThis park was really out of this world. It has like four different sections. Broken up into age group and even one for autism at specific times. Which by the way is a incredibly looking scientific, geometric, movement type, of amazing park I just don't even know how to explain it. The ones broken up into age groups I mean my daughter would continue to just go down different slides like she didn't even have to go down the same one more than a few times. There was a lot of people at the park but you never bumped into each other and it never felt crowded. There was even a sandbox. There's a separate dog park on the grounds but far away. There's even a skate park I did not attend that however just the fact that it's there is awesome to know. Grass goes on forever can run around and play. There were very clean looking basketball courts with multiple hoops. Adequate parking. I'm going to stop now cuz I could go on and on about how amazing it was. Great for kids, great for...
