It took me a long time of going back and forth on what to say in this post or if it will ever matter if I put it out there. But I know it will.
I have been a long time patron of this theater. 20+ years. I’ve seen many owners, tons of changes, the scare that was Covid— but one thing was always consistent besides the fresh popcorn.
The staff.
Many of us know who I’m talking about. The projectionist- Gracia- was there for longer then I had been a patron. She ran that place from the ground up. She even crowd funded (which I supported) purchasing the theater in 2019 before it was sold from under her. She was the bones the bread and the butter of that place. It was a labor of love and watching her adapt over the years and be so consistent was such a joy. Along with her awesome t shirts.
This year there was yet another change of ownership. And I have come to learn that she was discarded like her 25 years of service meant nothing. And not only that, I was lied to that she left on her own. Which isn’t the case. They also let go another staff member that has disabilities but a whole lot of heart. Sam was the light of my weekend. They worked there 12 years.
My heart is heavy. This place was much more than a cinema. It was community. And now it just feels cold.

I understand the new owner has installed a better screen. I'll go check it out. Revisited the theater. The new screen is an improvement. No longer is there the grainy texture that diffused the light. The color, however is still too dark and gray. Shadows are not black, instead shadow areas in the image are pools of gray without detail. Perhaps the projector needs a stronger lamp. The new owner seems intent on upgrading the whole experience. I hope all these problems will soon be remedied.
Recently attended. All is now remedied! Image great! Sound Great! Seating great! Thank you for all the improvements. We now have an excellent art house type theater in the neighborhood. Especially welcome now that the larger commercial theaters...
Read moreNot a fan. God forbid you end up in the first few rows- there are only sofas instead of regular theater seats. You will be squished next to a stranger. The popcorn is stale and tasteless, and you have to pay a dollar to add flavoring. I recommend going to Regal cinema instead; there is a larger variety of films. One redeeming quality of Eveningstar, however, is that some older movies are shown here, but Regal often has numerous vintage...
