Excellent food BUT UNwelcoming & Hurtful Experience
Last night my husband and I had an excellent meal at the bar: small pepperoni pizza, build-your-own burger, the pork bahn-mi bowl, and a flight of beer. Our experience was top-notch and we concluded that this would be our new "regular joint."
My husband liked the pizza so much that, the following day when I decided at 11:30a that I wanted iced green tea from Quickly, he decided to duck in to Brickyard Hollow next door for a slice.
Once I had my drink, I found my husband sitting inside at the nearly-empty bar - he does not like to eat outside - where I joined him, quietly sipping my drink while he finished up his slice.
The person behind the bar (who incidentally was the same person who served us the night before) caught my eye. Thinking that she recognized us, I started to say something cute like, "we couldn't stay away," but to my shock, she interrupted me with "outside drinks are not allowed," then paused, apparently waiting for me to leave. When I challenged her, I was told that "outside drinks are ok out on the patio but not inside."
By this time my husband was done eating his slice and we could have just left, but I felt that I needed to live up to my name and have a word with the manager, convinced that the "policy" must somehow have been misinterpreted.
I'm disappointed to say that the manager doubled-down on the policy, although allowed that I could remain at the bar as a "one-time exception." He failed to understand that I was not requesting an exception; I was attempting to clarify a policy that makes zero business sense.
If we were sitting there with no intent to order, I could certainly understand being asked to step outside. OR if I were drinking something that directly-competed with a product on the menu, I could also understand. I can also understand the need to treat everyone the same and not make exceptions. (Incidentally, I am white and deserve no special treatment.)
What I do NOT understand, and what I tried and failed to convey to this manager, is why this "policy" exists at all, given that it is much more likely to alienate otherwise loyal customers for no justifiable reason than to generate appreciable revenue.
Too bad - otherwise this would be a great place to...
Read moreThis is a very popular place! We tried to find parking and couldn’t find it so we parked a few businesses down and called in the order. We did make it a to go order at first but when I realized we could walk to Restaurant the lady At the counter was real nice and said I could find any seat I wanted. I returned to the counter to ask for some waters and then the manager, white hair glasses, Started asking me 20 questions About how I came in. Now I’ve been to plenty restaurants where you make a to go order And then change your mind and they say no problem and they let me sit down and serve me. This guy started to berate me at my table, telling me I’m not gonna eat here Because I called it in and the tables are reserved for people walking in but there was no line and plenty of seating. Mind you, I’m with my family, a three and a five-year-old and I just wanna give them a Good dining experience and then I’m told I can’t eat there because of a technicality. Of course I start getting upset and then he let me sit. We Had some good food, but nobody gave us napkins, silverware, and I had to ask someone for water. The irony is that there is a big chalkboard sign that says be kind. As I was leaving to pay, the guy doubles down that says the customer is not right that this is the way we do it in the restaurant business anywhere you go. That is definitely not true because I’ve been to plenty of nice restaurants where are the staff will be accommodating. I’ve been here another time and it was really great which is why My wife wanted to come back. It’s a great spot, but God forbid you call it in and want...
Read moreI was fond of Wild Oats, and I’ve been eager to see who would assume their old spot in downtown after the B&B store shut down, but I just had a chance to stop in for the first time last night, which was a Friday at around 9PM. I sat down by myself at a table outside and ordered a burger and a drink.
All of their burgers are served “smash” style and well done, and the bacon cheeseburger was robust, flavorful and satisfying. Most places around town don’t serve fries, but they do and they were also superb. I have nothing but good things to say about the food.
The service is the only arena where they fell a bit short of my expectations. While the waitress was affable, I did end up waiting for north of 30 minutes, and she seemed stretched a bit thin. The wait wasn’t outrageous, though, and I was satisfied enough with the food and atmosphere that I was prepared to quietly pay and leave without any complaint, but the waitress informed me that management was comping the meal due to the excessive wait time. I am thoroughly impressed that the management of the establishment was cognizant enough to take such a proactive measure to ensure customer satisfaction, and I am writing this review for that reason. Thank you for the warm hospitality, Brickyard Hollow. I will...
