Want to go here sooo bad, cool place they made a horror game called "outlast" based on the facility. It's an old insane asylum, looking into it's history supposedly it had a weird basement facility in real life, and they put that in the game. The second thing is that looking into the history of the facility before the final shut down around 1960 there was a gross lack of staff and overpopulation. Which obviously would lead to some less than desirable circumstances, anyway while researching around that date there is a year between 1955-1966 where you can not find any type of information on the facility.
The other cool tidbit about the game reference is they use this facility but place it on a rumored old native psychiatric hospital/reservation down south that was converted into a military base (fort lewis). Near mount massive in Colorado. I really want to look into this and see if there really was a large basement facility. I know the H. H. Richardson Complex was remodeled only a few years ago which I believe was them removing the basement facility and preparing the building to...
Read moreBeautiful architecture. Great photography inside of local landmarks. Such a shame, a male staff member “accused” me of doing a photoshoot (a selfie on the stairs on a cell phone, not with any professional equipment or lighting, and I made sure there were no hotel guests or visitors in the background out of respect for others). I was on the stairs less than a minute. I was told they charge $150 per hour for photoshoots and only photos of the outside of the building are allowed. A little concerned it was racist, as I saw other people taking photos inside as well and did not see them confronted. Signs should be posted clearly inside or a list of rules and expectations should be on their website. According to the website, the Richardson Olmsted Campus is listed as ‘open to the public’ but it seems there are ‘unwritten rules’ that are not clearly posted anywhere, very...
Read moreBeautiful building, rooms are very elegant, parking lot is out of view from the streets. Great for runners due to it's vast park setting, and fun to explore. You have to like history and appreciate these buildings as well as respect their functions initially and that this particular hospital and it's grounds were designed and built for the benefit of the mental health of it's patience. The Victorian's felt very strongly about nature and its connection with how they felt. So much of what they designed and built was mentality stimulating and they did that for a reason. Its just a shame it's so big and won't ever be 100% in use again. I don't think it'll last as a hotel again either. There is no support locally and Buffalo just isn't important enough to need so much hotel space. It's a small city that's left with its big past and just can't accommodate it most...
