I've always really liked this park. There are a couple challenging trails I've walked in the past, but being disabled these days, I have to stick to the flat easy trails now. As I recall, one of the steep trails that starts in the north side of the park, close to the Marine Educational Center, ends up coming out pretty much in the backyard of a house in the neighborhood that borders the park. The views of the water are wonderfull, and the park provides an enclave of nature sounds and smells right in the heart of town. There are a few play areas for the kids, lots of picnic tables and grills for family get togethers (get there early in the summer) and just a whole lot of beach to enjoy. My only complaint is that compared to other similar parks, such as Saltwater State Park in Des Moines, there is a lack of parking spots for disabled folks. Considering how steep the hill is from the upper parking area to the actual park there need to be MANY more parking spots for disabled people in the lower parking area. I confess that I have mixed feelings about walking this park these days since my dog (and one of the best friends I've EVER had), Maggie, passed away a couple years ago. She loved this park and sometimes I cry a little when I come here now. But, hey, that's my problem, right? Its not the...
Read moreSeahurst Park offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and educational opportunities, making it an excellent destination for families and nature lovers alike. Nestled along the coast, the park provides a serene setting for picnics, leisurely walks, and exploration of marine life.
One of the highlights for kids is the chance to learn about marine animals firsthand. Seattle Aquarium staff are frequently present along the coast, providing valuable insights and answering questions about the diverse sea creatures that inhabit the area. This interactive experience not only educates but also fosters a deeper appreciation for marine conservation.
The park itself features well-maintained trails that wind through lush forests and open meadows, offering plenty of space for recreation and relaxation. Scenic viewpoints provide stunning vistas of Puget Sound, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're enjoying a family outing, seeking a peaceful stroll, or eager to learn about local marine ecosystems, Seahurst Park delivers on all fronts, combining natural beauty with educational...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and visit Seahurst Park this summer. Bring the whole family! Parking is tight, but there ARE spaces in the upper and sometimes the lower lot--and it's free!
This is a wonderful beach--kids, dogs, sea birds, and even a cat or two sometimes! I saw 2 kites being flown last time I was there! You can rent covered picnic spaces (contact Burien Parks Dept. in advance,) there's improved trails, a newish seawall and longer sidewalks. The N. end has been improved and cleared up.
*Disclaimer: Hadn't been there since they improved the Beach, but parked in the upper lot and sat last week on that ONE nice day. Very peaceful. Didn't walk around but the parking lot with its plush greenery is always beautiful. I expect to have better reviews later in the season!
A lovely beach with a view of the Olympics on a clear day (see my super-zoomed photo attached,) Maury Island, the ferries coming and going, all the small craft boats, the friendly people at the beach-- it's a wonderful "small town" happy place, IMHO. I've been going there since I was a little kid.
Thanks...
