We searched for a park open in the area, this one showed up. It was listed as “open 24 hours”, upon arrival we see a sign that says “closes at sunset“ However, it was not open at all. There was a less than pleasant gentlemen that was driving his unmarked pickup in the gate as we pulled up behind him. He shut the gate and yelled something. I roll down my window and he repeated himself in a pretty angry tone “park is closed!” This was roughly 2:30 PM. My parents live not far from the Kent Trail, so when visiting in the summer I often pick up the trail by the high school and take the path toward the park. My dog loves going, and there is even a dog water fountain for him. As far as family stuff, there are several picnic shelters you can reserve, as well as free tables by the lake and two playground areas--these have a few small permanent grills scattered around as well. Read morePresently the park is closed, but you can walk around the locked gate. The driveway is clear of snow, but the grounds are still at least 24 to 36 inches deep in snow. The lake appears to be still frozen, but there were some open spots of clean water. There were ice fishermen preparing to go on the ice, so I presume that they knew what the weather permitting conditions were to go on there safely. The forecast is for more snow this weekend, so it may freeze over again. A good day to be out...
