The Gary SouthShore RailCats Stadium is such a fun and family-friendly place to spend an afternoon or evening! The atmosphere is always lively but never overwhelming, which makes it a great spot whether you’re a big baseball fan or just looking for something different to do with friends or family. There’s really not a bad seat in the house—the stadium has that cozy, community feel where you’re close enough to the action to really enjoy the game without feeling lost in a huge crowd.
One of the things we love most is how affordable it is compared to larger sporting events. Tickets, concessions, and even souvenirs are all reasonably priced, so it feels like something you can do more than just once in a while without breaking the bank. The food is surprisingly good for a ballpark too—classic stadium eats like hot dogs and nachos, plus some fun extras depending on the night.
They also do a great job keeping things entertaining beyond just the game itself. Between innings, there are fun little contests, games, and music to keep the energy up, and they often have theme nights or special promotions that make the experience even more memorable. Kids especially seem to love it—there’s plenty to keep them engaged so the whole family has a good time.
Parking and access are pretty easy as well, which is a huge plus compared to bigger venues. You can actually enjoy the event without the stress of long lines or crazy traffic, which makes the whole outing feel more relaxed and enjoyable.
Overall, the RailCats Stadium is such a hidden gem in the Region. It’s affordable, fun, and filled with good energy—a perfect mix of baseball, community, and family fun. Whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a new way to spend a summer evening, it’s definitely worth...
Read moreFor a great baseball experience that is great for the family, the Railcats and its venue is the place to be. During the game, between innings, all kids get to run across the outfield. Many years ago, when my boys were in Boy Scouts, we not only enjoyed a great game but met the players for a Q&A session afterwards, set up tents on the field, and watched movies on the jumbotron - the closest thing they will experience to a drive-in theater these days. Last night's game was fun with a great fireworks display afterwards. Unfortunately, the prices have skyrocketed (no pun intended.) Years ago, the food and drink provided a great value but not these days. Beers are $9, nachos are $8, hotdogs with the bun, squished into a 1 1/4" diameter (I am not kidding) was about $6. I went to a different vendor and ordered an Italian sausage, described the previous hotdog ripoff hoping for a better size and quality, and it too was a disappointment when I received it. ☹ The vendor even counted the few grilled onion specks he placed on it and actually removed some (really?) How cheap of an impression is that? Here is a suggestion, don't skimp to save pennies on overpriced, low quality goods. Add to the mystique and excitement of this awesome venue not detract from it. Overall, great family friendly baseball experience for all but eat ahead of time, before going to the...
Read moreHave not been to a game in years! Our group had a great time! Every single one of us! Only complaint would be the officer at the end, I had taken my kids to do the base run at the end which was the opposite side of the stadium. We quickly walked back when we were done and I saw the rest of my family walking up the stairs with the officer just standing there after he said "ok you guys need to go and make your way to the exit" which prompted my 8 year old to ask his dad if the cop just yelled at him due to his tone.. We live an hour away so I needed to make sure my kids went to the bathroom before we left. My family walked a little towards the exit then stood to wait for me. The officer made it a point when he saw them waiting to walk and stand right next to them. All they were doing was waiting for us to get out of the restroom, we have small kids and sorry nobody is comfortable leaving me there by myself with them.believe me we weren't trying to hang out at the empty stadium. The other officers were kind but this one the Caucasian man with a beard was on a bit of a power trip or something. But every other person we came into contact with was so kind. We will...
