I took a trip with a friend to Lacamas Park while staying in Camas, WA on a sunny, spring afternoon. We parked off of NE 3rd Ave. at the Lacamas Creek Trailhead and walked on SE Crown Road to a different entrance at the top of the hill, right before the elementary school. This parking tip made for the perfect hike, as you start out at the top and get to hike your way down and have your car conveniently at the bottom waiting for you.
There are so many different side trails and attractions that make the trip worth while. One of the first attractions we encountered was the Camas Lily Field. This is one of the only places in the park that has little if any shade as you walk through it; however, before youre able to take in the smell of flowers, the path leads you to a more secluded path.
One of my fabvorite highlights of the hike was the bridge. The sunlight spills onto the area in the most picturesque, surreal way. The rust on the bridge provides a gorgeous compliment to the vibrant greens that I have only been able to find on the west coast.
We went to the park on a Saturday, but the park covers so much area, that we really didn’t see as many people as I thought we would. If you are looking for a nature outing with good terrain for a nice hike along with breathtaking scenery, look no further than...
Read moreLast week in April 2022 UPDATE--------The Camas Lilies in the lily fields are in full bloom now. WOW--Seen this many times but the lilies were so beautiful in the light rain that we had today. Lacamas Park and Round Lake are total urban hiking gems in the area. Great trails honeycomb this park including a trail circumnavigating Round Lake. There are waterfalls , bike routes, hiking trails, restrooms, picnic areas and plenty of places to explore. Parking can be an issue on weekends . It may require parking a bit further away and walking into the park. There are several access points and trail heads. There are also maps interspersed around the park. There is handicap parking available but HC parking is limited to first -come first -served. CAMAS LILIES One major springtime reason to hike the park are the beautiful Camas Lilles located in the lily meadows at the top of the park. They carpet the area with a purple blanket that is spectacular. The lily fields are truly a sight to behold. April 7 2022 Update--The camas lilies are not in bloom yet . There are a few buds but it looks like we are a week or 2 away depending on the weather. Prime time is usually mid April to end of April again depending on the weather. Highly...
Read moreWe have really enjoyed this park & lakes. There are many upsides with a few downsides. These are beautiful lakes with multipul wonderful play structures for the kids. Some good fishing though we have yet to nab any keepers. We like that there are tables and benchs and some BBQs. One of the major downsides is the parking... there is rarely enough parking. Where there is enough parking there aren't enough benches and day use items. A lot of people ignore the non-smoking areas of the parks like the childrens play areas which is maddening, but that is hard to police unfortunately. Many of the areas to get down to the water can be very treacherous...I just dislocated & sprained my ankle while carrying my 9 month old while trying to take our older kids fishing. The bathrooms are always fairly dirty though. Last time we went only one out of three of the womens stalls was functional. It has some nice paved trails though which make it great for those on bikes, in wheelchairs or with walking disabilities. It is beautifully wooded with turtles, fish, and other wildlife. Overall great park that could use a few...
