Canton Historical Museum is located in Collinsville. It opened as a museum in 1970, however, the building was there for much longer. It was built around 1865 for the Collins Axe Company and had various uses. Plows were manufactured there then it was converted to a recreational spot for the employees. Parking is ample, right on the Farmington Trail. There are 3 floors to explore. I was surprised at how intricate and organized the place was. I am a huge fan of history so this was exciting for me. The main floor was made to look like the old barber shop, general store, Victorian rooms, and more. Our favorite floor was the third floor, there is a working toy train located in a miniature Collinsville and nearby spots. It was so meticulous and beautifully designed. You can press the button for the train to go around and even pull the lever to make the horn sound. There were so many items from the Collins Axe Company, various items from Victorian times, and a research library. Yes, I think it's worth a visit!

Hidden gem in town of Collinsville. Three floors of history housed in a huge building next to former factory buildings of the Collins ax factory. A glimpse of the past worth learning about. There's a huge replica of the mills complete with functioning trains old and young will enjoy. We were able to tour by special appointment. Entrance fee is by donation which we were very happy to support.

12.5.21 What an incredible experience this was. We sometimes forget how amazing CT is and all the free things there are to enjoy. Not only is this a great historical venue but it was a fun experience for the entire family. We learned about Canton, Collinsville. And also enjoyed their Gallery of Trees 2021. Perfect day.

We visited the museum while stopping in Collinsville via the bike path. We will definitely be back, there is so much to see inside. From the expected displays and information about the factory, to the unexpected collections of native tools, Victorian era ephemera, and truly curious items like the Fisk casket. There’s something in there for everyone! We were given a tour around the building by one of the volunteers who provided so much interesting background about the collections. Many times we’ve stopped along the trail in Collinsville and wondered what was inside the Historical Society building, totally...
