01/06/2011 - My fiance and I just got back from your establishment. Although I ate nearly all my pastrami Reuben since I was famished and hadn't eaten during the day, it was the worst I have ever had and certainly not worth $10.00. It took over 45 minutes for a Reuben and a BLT sandwich to be delivered to our table, which was next to a stone/gas fireplace yet we froze as we waited for an unreasonable amount of time. Funny thing is there was a Hostess and three/four waitresses on duty serving no more than 15 tables.
Our appetizer of Calamari/w Marinara for $10.50 or so was a plate of breaded crumbs with a few very small rings of Calamari. The Marinara was a stewed tomato in a dish with very little sauce if any. This appetizer was worth no more than $6.00 (and that's pushing it).
Over forty five minutes after ordering or sandwiches, the waitress came by and said she was going to see what was going on (we didn't ask, but we were about to leave). She finally returned with our sandwiches. My order of a Pastrami Reuben was correct, however looked as though it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while and my initial impression was confirmed when I picked it up and the soggy bread fell apart in my hands. (again, I ate it because I was hungry, but it was saturated and soggy from sitting under a heat lamp so long).
My fiance had ordered a BLT with Cheddar cheese and NO mayo. The kitchen got the no mayo part correct, but it came with a slab of American cheese. The bacon did not taste like apple smoked as the menu proclaims and the bread was much like mine, soggy, not crisp and toasty.
The overall experience in the Crown and Hammer was extremely disappointing. While it appeared to have a nice atmosphere, the restaurant was loud, the service was slow, and the food was sub-par, and definitely not worth the price paid. We have no plans to return and will not recommend it to anyone we know, unless we disliked them.
Overall I rate our experience with a negative two thumbs down. I'm also interested to know who might sit at the table upstairs just outside the...
Read moreEarly June again, except now 2022, we had an enjoyable meal here later in the evening around 8:00PM. A few things were sold out, including the two most expensive entrées on the menu. We shared the Crispy Shrimp starter and ordered two cocktails off of the special drink menu - a Cadillac Margarita and a Rhubarb Gin Rickey. Mains: Grilled pork chop with sweet potato mash, apple pan jus, brussel sprouts with bacon and Baked cod with rice pilaf and asparagus. The pork chop was the star dish with generous portion size, flavor, sear and juiciness. The cod was good, too, for a lighter choice.
Dropping in for a cocktail and snack the other day, early June 2021, we were told they still weren't open except for dining outside and inside the bar. The outdoor tables were full so we sat at a table for two in the bar. The special cocktail menu has names only, no ingredients, so we inquired about a few and chose a spiked lemonade and peach martini. Decent drinks.
The two appetizers were above par. The wings with barbecue sauce were plump and meaty with the right crispness, and the fried ravioli had the right crunch, bite, amount of cheese, and seasoned sauce on the side. We'd readily order both again. Since my martini was small, I ordered a margarita which was definitely a better drink.
With the bar area being an intimate size, it was hard not to hear others conversations. That said, this is very much a locals establishment which will remain as such once it reopens all of its rooms. Diners won't notice this detail then with much more space.
Good food on two visits. One lunch. One dinner. Relaxing feel and friendly service. Live cover band Saturday night offers music some places don't if that's what you're looking for...Boursin cheese and chicken sandwich as well as the Tavern burger both worth reordering. Wings and fried shrimp apps also satisfying. Fish tacos and fish and chips okay...have had better elsewhere but these are common menu items which makes competition large. Specialty...
Read moreI used to enjoy this establishment after a long bike ride, thought it was a cool spot to stop at. I had a shot and a beer, sat outside. no issues. Then after another ride, I stopped for lunch. no one asked if I wanted anything. went inside, I was told I needed to be seated. ok. waited a very long time for a grilled cheese and fries. my cheese was not melted, way too much cheeses, fries were cold and limp. Next visit I go inside, I was ignored for 20 minutes. finally get seated outside and again, my food was cold, after waiting a very long time. payed extra for sweet potato fries. Another visit, and after waiting 30 minutes, I go inside and again, non-one asks if I need anything. Finally, I tell one of the girls that Im still waiting for my food. One looks at the other and says, " you didnt bring her food out"? Most recently was Morhers day. no sign, and online does not say, "not seating after 3 pm. again, my son and I were ignored, standing to be seated. I had to stand in the bar area to be asked if I needed anything. the bar tender rudely said it was 3:15 and they werent seating after 3pm. of course we were standing there for 15 minutes, ignored. Not a good way to run a business. Hire a hostess and more wait staff. ....
