Casey, Illinois completely caught me off guard—in the best way. I went there expecting to check out the World’s Largest Wind Chime, but what I found was this peaceful, welcoming little town that feels like a giant playground for the imagination. The wind chime is incredible—more than 55 feet tall and when the breeze rolls through, it creates this calm, echoing song that kind of pulls you into the moment. It’s strange how something so big can make you feel so still. But honestly, the whole town is full of these quirky, oversized surprises: from a mailbox you can literally walk inside to a rocking chair that looks like it was made for a giant. It’s part funhouse, part art gallery, and totally one-of-a-kind.
What really stuck with me, though, wasn’t just the “big things”—it was the people and the vibe. Everyone I met seemed genuinely happy to share their town’s story. The downtown shops had this handcrafted, local flair, and I grabbed one of the best slices of pie I’ve ever had at a cozy spot called Whitling Whimsy. There’s something about Casey that slows you down in the best possible way. If you ever feel like you’ve been moving too fast, it’s the kind of place that reminds you to pause, look around, and enjoy where you are—even if that’s in front of a...
Read moreWe were driving home to Indy from Saint Louis and saw signs for this, as well as the worlds tallest golf tee (nearby). We decided to pull off the interstate to have a look. They were both really cool. I got to ring the giant wind chime! We had lunch next door (really good philly cheese steak). The best part is we ran into the son of the creator there and he told us where we can find the base of what will soon be the largest rocking chair. That thing was massive! I will definitely stop by Casey, IL to see it when it's done.
The man who created these monstrosities (and his family as well) seem like really cool people who have a huge pride for their small town. I wish I could have met the guy who made these things! I highly recommend stopping through for lunch to see them and their nice...
Read moreWhile traveling East on I 70, we decided to make a stop in Casey to see some of the sights that we had heard about in our travels. We were not disappointed. WOW the giant Wind Chime was spectacular and you could take your time to enjoy. A bit later we wandered into a huge open air warehouse were the workers took time and chatted explaining how Jim Bolin got the town got hooked on building large novelties. Enjoy their hard work, that includes giant; Knitting Needles, Pitch Fork, Golf Tee, a 36' Yardstick, Rocking Chair, Token and more. These are great people who took time out of their day, fun to talk with and were friendly. Then stop at the little Coffee Shop next to the Wind Chime it was a pleasure. This was a great stop and we encourage you if your passing by, take some...
