This makes me feel sad to write.. I went to this store several times before it relocated probably about 4 or 5 yrs ago was the last time i truly went in to shop-shop. At that time, i would have given the place 5 stars. The associates were very kind, helpful, and I felt good vibes. I don't even do a lot of reviews, but I've been so bothered by my recent experience there, I had to look n see if it was just me, but apparently it isn't. After we went to dormont to discover they relocated, my husband called to which they said they moved to CS. No biggie, it was on our way home. We called again from across the street bc we couldn't figure out where they were-- we were informed n went in. I immediately felt bad vibes upon entering. When the first girl said hello to us, I light heartedly, (in a joking voice and with a smile), said "you guys were a little difficult to find, but im glad i found u!" And that i didnt even know u relocated- and she came back really snarky with (verbatim-) "yea, well, were doing our best--getting a sign is kind of expensive" I said "oh no I understand, I didn't mean it like that--" n when I said about not knowing about the relocation, she goes "psss, well it was on facebook for months, we announced it n bla bla bla"-- to which I said, oh I'm sorry, I guess I'm not friends with the store, I just didn't know. The whole convo was very unfriendly and awkward. Zero customer service skills at all unfortunately. We weren't asked for my purse, however, we were followed around the store for the first 15 minutes or so we were there. my daughter and I couldn't even enjoy ourselves bc everything she went to touch to pick up and show me, she was yelled at not to touch anything. And I don't even mean expensive items, like she was yelled at for touching the tiny crystals and rocks that u couldn't break if u stomped on them. (just to give an idea of my kids behavior- we had just left an antique shop in lebo where the older gentlemen that owned the store raved about how well behaved and polite my children were and even they welcomed them to touch and pick up things they liked. They even gave my daughter several little rings in addition to the ones we purchased bc they liked her so much.) They aren't savages in otherwords. But, back to moonstone- Anything we wanted to look at for the first 15 minutes that girl was up our rear end. After that she kind of backed off and we could look a little bit. When we went in there a few years back, my kids were encouraged to pick out the stones n crystals they liked or were drawn to while I was given suggestions on amethyst to get them to sleep, amongst other things. it was just a different atmosphere then. I also didn't think they had as big of a selection as they used to, and unfortunately I didn't have much call out to me. One stone sort of did and when I asked what a particular written description meant, the same snarky girl became sort of snarky again and made me feel stupid for asking in the tone n way she responded. I Also feel like certain items have become overpriced. Were really disappointed that the store doesn't seem to be what it used to as far as the inviting energy of former years. It really used to be a nice store, hopefully it can get back to that some day. It just feels so overwhelmingly heavy and dark in there now I won't be going back. either ever or until I read people r having positive experiences again. Ive felt heavy ever since our visit there which was over a week ago now. I contemplated buying the one stone i referred to above and i was going to buy one little ring and something in me just said nope and i said out of nowhere- said "lets go" to everyone, n i left it at the counter n I just left quickly. My husband even asked why we were leaving-- I just had to get out of there. I was getting physically, spiritually and emotionally anxious n I guess I couldn't take anymore of the feeling. Maybe God or my higher self was protecting me from bringing home an item with attached negative energy. Sorry moonstone, I hope ur store gets well soon....
Read moreLots of people post about feeling like the staff thought they were trying to steal. I wanted to add my two cents after reading reviews then visiting myself. Moonstones has a very large selection of many unique items. They sell a lot of crystals at very cheap prices, probably the cheapest in the area. That being said, having worked in retail at some point in my life and dealing with petty theft: excellent customer service is honestly the best and most effect shoplifting deterrent staff has. They probably don't suspect every single person that comes thru the doors is a thief but to protect their product and BE ABLE TO KEEP THEIR PRICES LOW FOR THE CUSTOMERS they are programmed to maximum customer service everyone who comes though the doors. It weeds out the thiefs from honest folk. Don't take it so personally or think everything is about you. If i didn't know about theft and customer service, i probably would have been offended at all the constant attention staff gives customers. That aside, it's a nice little (actually pretty good sized but still somehow cozy) shop that i enjoyed very much. My only suggestion is that for the stones/crystals, think about giving customers the option to take a little slip of paper with them that has the items info on it. For those of us who buy several things at once but forget later what they were called. Like, in the same bin with the stones, a several small slips the same dimensions as the bin it's in, that they can take with the stone when...
Read moreI want to love this place, especially since it is the largest occult shop near me. However, every time I go I leave irritated. Stones and Crystal's are things I buy for healing and empowerment, yet the vibe of this store is one that does not promote this, instead it seems to harbor hostile negativity. On every wall there is some snarky sign about theft, and the newer addition about how you don't have a right to look if you're not buying. It creates a negative feeling, not one that promotes me to want to buy anything. This last time I brought my mom who was visiting from out of town. She had been excited, yet 5 minutes into being in the store she was mad and unenthusiastic about even purchasing items she had long been looking for.
They also don't always accurately label stones. As a capricorn, my birth stone was and always has been garnet. It was one of the first stones I really gravitated toward and begun my journey. They have it labeled under aquarius. This time I asked "why" and they gave me this big long excuse saying "It is labeled as the month it spend most of it's time in and starts the month in" which would be January and capricorn, but they backtracked and gave me some excuse like "the gemologist society says so" and treated me like some novice.
After trying to give them several chances I will never go back. I'd rather drive the 1.5 hours to the occult store near...
