I was stuck in traffic and crawling when I saw their sign. Knowing that I was going to want to eat before I got to my destination and not having had Gyros in a while, I decided to stop in and try them out.
The place is highly utilitarian as you can see from the interior picture. It is mostly set up for takeout service but they do have four table that you can sit and eat at, if you wish. Since I wanted to let the traffic rush die down, I elected to sit and eat in place. I gave my order to the harried teenager - who was also answering the phones and doing something in the kitchen - and sat down to wait. This is clearly a family run operation as besides the young woman who took my order, there was an older woman (mother?) and an older young man (older brother?) who were both working behind the kitchen counter. There was a steady stream of orders coming in via phone orders, and they must have some sort of app ordering as well. I saw people coming in for pickup of various types - including delivery services. Aside from me, there was only one other couple who chose to each in the place.
When my food was delivered, it was piping hot and fresh. The fresh cut fries were just the way I like them, but they did not salt them, and I did not see salt packets or a shaker on the table. There was some sort of spice shaker there and I tried it, but I think it was paprika. The gyro itself was a nice portion and had shredded lettuce, onions, and some sort of creamy dressing on it. I would have preferred a stronger flavored creamy dressing, but that's not their style apparently.
Overall, it was a great value at less than $12 for the whole meal, but not the best Gyro in the area. The meat was the same as you can get elsewhere, it's the overall package that was lacking. That, and the utter lack of charm, are the reasons for the three...
Read moreAwesome Greek spot in the Castle Shannon area! If you live nearby, you should definitely visit this place. They serve mostly gyros and keep a menu mixed with Greek and American food. I came for a quick meal, so all I had was the side chicken meat, garlic sauce, and tres leches.
Everything was very tasty! The chicken meat side portion was absolutely huge. I was expecting a lot less. Love the bang for your buck. It was also quite flavorful. Seasoned pretty well and juicy. Some pieces were a bit fatty, but on the whole, very good.
The garlic sauce was good, although I’m not entirely sure they actually gave me the garlic sauce since it had a slightly red tint to it. Regardless, it was creamy and flavorful, but also had some sort of sweetness that I wasn’t the biggest fan of.
I was surprised to see that this place serves desserts like tiramisu and tres leches. But, wow, that tres leches was delicious. Again, a great portion, and the cake was sweet and doused in milk. So good, and probably rivals with several Latin American places.
All in all, very good. Would come back to try their gyros as well, but everything I had was amazing and great portions. Try the tres leches for a...
Read moreThe food is really good, but the prices are not, and sizes of the food is not good either. I’ll give you an example. You get about 12 French fries, on your gyro you get half of a half of a half of tomato, you get about a quarter teaspoon of onions and about a tablespoon of cucumber sauce which forces you to buy extra sauce. Unless you are an extremely skinny teen with an abundantly small appetite don’t get your hopes up. Also, the lady that rings you out automatically points to the “tip” portion of the receipt amd expects you to tip. So, for $26.00 you get 2 small gyros and 2 very very small fries and 2 drinks you can buy for .80 cents anywhere in PA. Now again, the food is very good but not somewhere you can afford to go 3-4 times a week. Also, 90% of the time you will not see an employee wearing a mask. I’ve never had a problem with an order except for them being very petite orders and they raised the price $2.00. I will continue to eat there once every 3-4 weeks but that’s it. Also take cash with you unless you want to tip 15% for take out food and in that case you might as well tip McDonald’s, Wendy’s or Taco Bell...
