Yumei's Asian Market & Anime — Attraction in Cedar Rapids

Largest Asian grocery store that I have been to in Cedar Rapids area. Nice, clean store with many refrigerated and frozen items compared to the others. Helpful staff. They have aisles full of products from dishes to bulk food to fresh produce as pears and coconut. I found the refrigerated ramen noodles I was looking for. They had a few items of closure as dresses and some children’s items such as Hello Kitty. Nice selection of cooking utensils, nice heavy pans and anything most people need to cook and serve. The store is part of the same building as the dollar store. This is located right off the interstate so it was a quick drive just hop on and off. Parking is so limited and too close to the door where people must enter and exit. It is not marked as a one way even...

I get that the store name brings in a lot of people in the area who are into Asian culture and anime and thus everyone is excited to visit the store.. but I'm just going to be honest here as I am Korean and I went there to shop for groceries, the food was not that fresh. There was a lot of old items in the freezers and a lot of the vegetables were clearly old and should not have been kept out to sell. I was unable to even get a bag of bean sprouts because the ones they had out were just too old. The place was dusty and could use for a good clean as well as their freezers. I love how many unique foods and drinks you can find here. While I'm only able to read the Japanese goods, I still look for interesting packaging for other ethnic options. Part of me always forgets there is a freezer section with some particularly interesting goods in there. Frozen taiyaki for one, filled with red bean paste.

If you love your packaged ramen and fun snacks I highly recommend you stop by. They also have large bags of dried mushrooms, something that is very hard to come across nearly anywhere else in town.
