Do not go here for color. I wanted blonde baby lights. My hair is naturally a lighter brown. They said it'd be no problem adding blonde baby lights in consult. I went in for my appointment, got done and my hair turned out ORANGE. I stayed longer she bleached my hair again same day to try and "fix" it. STILL ORANGE. They got me into Maddie the next day she did all she could to fix it. Still looks horrible, choppy and distasteful. For being a "luxury salon" I expected WAY more. I also have to fix this before my professional pictures. They were dying virgin hair mind you. I previously had highlights on the very tips of my hair probably about 7-8 inches grown out. So I'm not sure why it turned out this way especially the part that had absolutely no dye. They also do not provide refunds but I'm nervous to go back A THIRD time and tell them to dye it all brown and cover this blonde since this looks HORRIBLE. I don't want my hair more messed up. The first picture I what I’m left with after THREE bleaching sessions and Maddie fixing it. She truly did the best she could and made it look better but it still looks bad due to the previous work.

UPDATE: they called me to address the review, that's a positive. But I was told that they always use those extras and that's why they charged me but they should have told me so they were sorry and offered me a free mask to help with the fried feeling. If highlights are $260 don't advertise that they're $125. BEWARE OF THE HIDDEN UPCHARGES!!! I asked for highlights ($125) and somehow ended up getting $135 worth of stuff I didn't ask for and was never told was even going on my hair let alone that I would get charged for it!!!! My hair looks good, too blonde and feels fried but it looks good, so at least there's that. I'm too non confrontational to say anything and they literally stand there staring at you while you tip. So that's the last $312 I will ever spend there. If you go just make sure you tell them to let you know when they are doing anything that will cost extra!!

I can't say enough good things about Joncen Phi Salon and my fabulous stylist, Ariana. Over the past year, my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. Ariana's ability to deliver master cuts that add volume and dimension to my hair is simply unmatched. She has an incredible eye for color, always selecting the shades that flatter me the most. But it's not just her technical skills that keep me coming back. Ariana is genuinely nice and so easy to talk to. Our conversations always add to the enjoyable ambiance of the salon, making each visit a complete experience. The end result? My hair has never looked better, and I leave the salon with a newfound sense of confidence every single time. If you're searching for a stylist who knows their craft and creates a welcoming atmosphere, Ariana at Joncen Phi Salon is the one to see. Highly recommend! :)

Jonsen Phi Salon, I found your website on Internet. Your website looked professional compared to other salons and I decided to schedule an appointment. I needed highlights and a haircut. I attempted to book an appointment on your website. However, under the section for color, you had like 13 options listed such as double process global, full designer foiling, full designer baby lights etc. I had no idea what this terminology meant and what I needed. I think this menu is more appropriate for somebody who has finished a cosmetology school not for a regular customer. This prompted me to schedule an appointment for a consultation. The salon looked nice but the hairdressers had very loud voices to the point that it sounded like yelling or screaming. When you combine this with the music in the background it was overwhelming. I used to go to the Carsten salon where there was a calm, quiet and professional atmosphere and environment. Unfortunately, Carsten Wilms retired and I had to find a different salon and you were my next choice. I scheduled an appointment at 12:00 PM on Saturday. I came a little bit early so I could be there exactly on time. Your designer showed up at 12:16 PM. With all due respect, if you will be working with new clients, it would be nice to show up on time. This shows professionalism and that you value the customer’s time. On your website you have listed and have established high expectations for the customer such as ā€œPlease further note that failure to provide at least 24 hours' notice of cancellation or rescheduling will result in a fee of $25. In addition, if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, a fee of $25 will be charged.ā€ This almost sounds like a threat for the customers but at the same time it seems it is alright for the designer to be late. The designer was nice and polite but I was disappointed with the consultation. My hair is highlighted in blond but there is regrowth of my natural hair and color on top. I just needed new blond highlights and a haircut such as trimming the dry, damaged ends of the hair. Your designer bombarded me with questions. Do I like my hair the way it is? Do I like cold or warm tones etc. I have no idea what cold or warm tones mean. She used other terminology as well. I felt intimidated and nervous. I did not know how to answer her questions. I almost felt like I had to come up with the color for highlighting and what needs to be done. The designer made some comments how it was not about what she liked but what I like. If I were your designer, I would to say to the customer: ā€œit looks like this is what you have now. Do you want me to do the same thing, something different or I can suggest other optionsā€. In my previous salon, they were able to determine what kind of blond goes well with my skin tone and what haircut goes well with my face frame without asking questions. From my perspective a consultation means meeting with an expert to advise me and guide me on what I need. In other words, the designer evaluating the customer skin tone, eye color, showing the customer the tones and how that looks against their skin. This is what color consultation should be. If I had the skills to determine all of this, I would not need a consultation. Evaluate and present the customer with options. The customer will decide what they want done. I was looking for an expert advice in this area, not about what I like or what the designer likes. Finally, we got to the point for her to make some comments. She suggested that my hair was damaged and the blond highlights will break the hair. She suggested that I needed Olaplex treatment. I do not know what to say about this comment. My hair has been highlighted in blond every four months for the last 20 years without an Olaplex treatment. Overall, her proposal that on the first and second appointment we will do baby lights and on the third appointment full highlights did not make much...

Be wary of upcharge from this salon. Me and my mother have been a regular at this salon for the last few years, my last appointment being 6 months ago, but in my most recent appointment I ended up having to walk out. Between appointments I tone my hair at home, and I use a 20 volume developer along with a wella toner, no bleach or color. But in order to retain health I’ve been avoiding using toner for the last 4 months. The stylist claimed I had ā€œred dyeā€ present in my hair and would need to do a color correction, which required an almost 150-200 upcharge. There was no dye present in my hair, just a red overtone from my hair not being toned. Every time I’ve been here previously, most recently around 6 months ago, I’ve only had to pay around 300 for a balayage, which from what I’m aware is also common in terms of pricing from other salons in the area. When I told the stylist that the last time I was here at this same salon only a few months prior, she told me she was just ā€œmore bluntā€ than other stylist’s. When leaving, I attempted to come up to her and thank her for her time anyway, but she wouldn’t look me in the eye and basically rushed past me. While I’m not a professional stylist, I know my hair and color history and I know when I’m being purposefully upcharged, and I especially don’t take well to a stylist who doesn’t have the decorum to be polite to a customer as they’re leaving the door. I ended making a last minute appointment to another salon nearby that didn’t make any claims of ā€œcolor correctionā€ and just gave me the proper service.

EDIT: the salon response below mentioned that I did ā€œat home hair coloringā€. Like I clarified both at the appointment and in my review above, lifting from a 20 volume developer and an ash toner isn’t the same as if I were to box dye my hair with semipermanent or permanent color. Any ā€œred dyeā€ left on my hair like the stylist claimed isn’t color, but brass from lifting and not toning. And interesting how my comments about the stylist being rude went unaddressed in their comment, I think the demeanor of a stylist is just as important than the work they do on your hair, and I would have liked that to have...

Joncen has been cutting my hair since at least 2016 when he had a little salon room. I was looking for someone who understood Asian hair, and I wanted to dye it for the first time too! I found him off Yelp initially, and I haven't gone ANYWHERE ever since! I got to go to his grand opening of his official Joncen Phi salon which was amazing.

He is top tier in many categories from amazing haircuts to sense of humor to charisma! You have to book fast with him though - I went to get a haircut in October and found him booked a ton even through December! You know your stylist is fantastic when you have trouble seeing them lol.

This last time I went, November 4th, he wasn't in and I was desperate to get my hair cut. Whenever I go, I just tell him "do my bangs the usual way, don't stack me in the back, and make me look cute". Then he goes to work and the magic is done so quickly! I've always had him cut my boyfriend's hair too since he's skilled on men and women! I've never had my hair cut by anyone else until now... and I loved it!

Amanda was AMAZING. She was fun, fresh, funny, and I had a great time getting to know her. She cared so much about how I felt and wanted my hair to come out just right! Admittedly, I am quite picky with my bangs. She and I worked together to make sure I was happy with them - my hair came out PERFECT. Excellent, excellent service as usual. My boyfriend was going to get a fade, but Amanda actually recommended a stylist whom she knew did awesome fades. I think his name was Adam...? He did an amazing job as well! I am a client for life...
