Went in for first time. Inside casual atmosphere First stop bathroom and wasn’t to clean. Than booth seating. Pretty comfortable. Newspaper menu and they reuse these which I found to be not sanitary. I actually spilled a bit of my drink on it wiped it dried up and watched waitress put back with other newspaper menus. With covid and all I would think they would throw away menu’s after customer used. Yes an expense tho for sanitary reasons I personally would have felt better. Or go to a plastic menu that can be wiped dwn. I ordered taco salad no avocado and my mother ordered open faced turkey sandwich. Wish I had taken pictures. Taco salad shell was burnt. Ground beef looked old and dry. Taste wasn’t that bad as I hadn’t had anything to eat all day tho really couldn't eat much of this as it wasn’t to good and their were slices of avocado when I said no avocado and it had brown on avocado like it was old and looked soft like ready for making guacamole so lost my appetite a bit. Waitress said after I told her “guess cook didn’t see no avocado” “oh I can just take it off” Open faced turkey sandwich had zero presentation 2 pieces of white bread with gravy turkey in plate with mashed potatoes a extremely small container with maybe a teaspoon of cranberry sauce no vegetables side The turkey was tuff my mother couldn’t eat it and waitress never asked how food was even when their was only 2 other parties in restaurant so not even busy. When she came over to table she said “would you like a box? I said no she couldn’t eat this. Never asked what was wrong only took plate away. And asked if I wanted a box to take home taco salad. Of course I said no. Seems like we ordered wrong menu items. Saw another party eating breakfast which looked ok and other party were eating a corn muffin that looked good. Tho maybe it all looked good because our food left us hungry. You pay at register when leaving. The lady at check out was very nice and I saw some small pies or cobbler you can take to go or order at table. I saw on menu they had bread pudding. Asked if they had this as none in case with pies and cobbler. Young lady was so nice and said let me check in back if they had the bread pudding. And yes they did. Took it home. Large portion for $4.99. It was I must say really good. Overall I’m disappointed tho I still think I will try again for breakfast or to try those...
Read moreI used to love this location but they need to do some serious work getting back up to the quality of food and service they had before. The first dozen times my bf and I went we had great food and service! Never a single issue. Things progressively declined over the next 6 months. Each visit after those few months of us becoming regulars, ordering the same things consistently, got lesser in overall quality. Overnight the staff seemed confused, incompetent, rude, and argumentative. I order the exact same thing everytime, corned beef hash, soft poached eggs, country potatoes w/ a biscuit and a side of bacon extra extra crispy. I had multiple experiences where they had no idea how to cook this item and others that are on the menu and are straightforward. Staff wouldn’t listen even when I asked to show them the menu and over complicated the ordering process. They sent my food back 3 times and it came back worse every attempt. I even received 1 raw egg yolk sitting in a puddle of water in my bowl as part of my TWO egg meal??? That’s not even all of it but that would take a small novella that’s how many issues we’re talking about here. I am not kidding when I say this same situation happened TWICE more after this when we tried to give them another shot! The last time we almost walked out (we are not those people) and we could hear kitchen staff verbally insulting us from the kitchen. The manager knew us almost by name that’s how many times we ate there, and had to interact with her. Staff didn’t know whose tables we were whose multiple times, with either numerous or no servers at all taking our orders. Until they make some serious changes we cannot bring ourselves to come back it’s honestly stressful. Aside from the manager trying to make it right for us monetarily there was little highlight to evening service. Morning we have had better experiences, but the wait times can be ridiculous. Please please please get better we love you and miss our favorite late night...
Read moreI love Black Bear Diners, but this one I am very disappointed with. I ordered a Rueben sandwich and my husband ordered a patty melt. His came on a toasted, not grilled, rye bread. Mine came on a toasted, not grilled, whole wheat bread. It took 20 minutes to get the meal and only one other couple was there. I showed the mistake to my wait person and she took it back to have to cook make another one. This time it came on rye, as it was supposed to be, but still not grilled. Only toasted. Very frustrating. Anyway, manager came to table and his first words were, "0 for 2" . I explained about the toasting vs grilling and he said it was grilled and what did I expect. I told him I've eaten at many different black bear restaurants and never had a Reuben this dry. Always a little buttery from the grill. He then asked, "do you want it greasy?" I also told him my husband's sandwich wasn't grilled and he said, "well, I didn't see his." So I asked him if he thought I was lying. He said no, but he didn't see my husbands sandwich. He said he would personally go back and make me reuben sandwich. When I finally got my sandwich, another 20 minutes, I had it to go. I wanted to pay for it, but he had already taken it off the bill. Not my intent! Anyway, his sandwich wasn't any better. Found out cook is 18 yr old. The wait staff was excellent! All very, very young. To franchise owners; get a new manager.... this one is very...
