I have especially enjoyed time spent hiking the McCoy Trailhead at the Chino Hills Community Park. It is second only to hiking Griffith Park when I resided in Los Feliz a few years back on a long work seeking exploratory to L.A. Last summer I had the pleasure of hiking Cougar Gulch in Coeur d'Allaine, Idaho. It is splendidly ties a second with Chino Hills among my west coast hiking delights.
I still cannot get over the silly crab in Griffith Park clinging to it's chicken at the risk of life and limb. Maybe it's smart enough to know that at the end of the day it's all sport and yes it could actually take the chicken home after all.
Here at Chino Hills I have frequently been openly attacked by a big white goose that just goes made at the sound of my voice. I was thankful to think that it has gone back to Canada for a season or flown south. As I have not been here in quite some time, I am not prepared to fight. Throwing my water bottle to the ground with attitude enough to match this loud goose, as if I were about to throw down is usually enough to get it to leave me alone. Only today, I forgot my water bottle.
As for Cougar Gulch, I had been hiking the area alone sometimes getting lost in the woods for hours as I had been told that no Cougar's had been seen in those parts for decades.
One evening upon my arrival at work, just 20 miles away; a co-worker announced that he had been being hunted by a Cougar and he won the hunt. He shared a photo of himself about 6ft tall holding up the Cougar over whom he'd won the hunt. It was longer than he is. I never hiked Cougar Gulch alone again. 20 miles is just a Sprint for such an animal.
Happy hiking. It is thankfully one pleasure that coronavirus cannot deter along with the joy of horseback riding and overall interactions with nature. I sort of did miss that nasty goose after all.

Read moreFor those people who think that walking your dog off leash is ok, it's not. There is a leash law and even if your dog is sweet, old or whatever, there are some of us that don't buy our dogs from a breeder but choose to "rescue," them from abuse, neglect etc. So as we try to socialize our new pet addition, we are also aware that they have a troubled past that makes them unpredictable as we work to providing them a stable home so, you who act irresponsible by allowing your dog to roam free and approach people and other dogs risk the safety of yours and the sense of otherbdogs feeling threatened enough to become protective and perhaps promote a dog fight. Answer is simple, keep your...
