Maybe it's not Sonnenberg and in a lakeside village, but it's close by, fee-free, and in a park beside the Genesee River and short paved accessibility-friendly walk to a view of the impressive lower falls. The flower beds contain a great variety of cultivars representing a plethora color spectrum, size, scent, and shape. Long ago I learned the substantial benefits of taking literally the phrase "stop and smell the roses," and this is a fantastic place to do exactly that. I like to go around and pick my favorite fragrance although admittedly, my olfactory sense will saturate. In addition to each rose's individual nameplate, posting mildly academic information on the bush would likely add appeal and so further grow in value what the eyes see as the mind opens and our spirit awakens. A further improvement I would like to see is to place one of those instructional/historical picture kiosks like they have on the Genesee River Trail; signage that tells you details and background about the park. Sometimes we need to learn a little to truly understand and thereby appreciate the many blessings the Rochester area provides access to; things we may all to often unintentionally be blinded to by daily concerns. Yet having not only our physical, but especially spiritual eyes opened in a beautiful place such as the Maplewood Rose Garden, allows us to imbibe the soul tonics of Creation and the glory it contains in a way that wonderfully alleviates...
Read moreHas A LOT of potential. However it is still an area on the rise. Although great effort was made in the building of the accompanying gorge trails, there is garbage, grafitti, and inappropriate litter (not appropriate for children) strewn about. The garden itself is nice and open. I was too early for the roses, but I'm sure it is beautiful when they bloom. The bathrooms were still closed in April. Bring a buddy if you come here, don't go alone. Looks like a great place to go cycling, as it connects to the gorge trail. The garden also provides a trail to access a man-made cave to view the falls from the bottom. But it is not an easy decline, and it is not recommended to go down and...
Read moreGreat for sledding. Kids had a ball. This place is a hidden gem. It is great for all seasons. The Gorge runs behind it. It leads to the Genesse trail which holds all kinds of historic information. The trail leads to all 3 waterfalls in Rochester. The Maplewood Rose Garden has a festival each year. This year is Saturday June 10, 2018 from 12-5pm. During the spring/summer months you can "pack" a basket and have breakfast, brunch or lunch quietly at the waterfalls. During the afternoon or evening you can walk the trail or people watch. In the winter you can enjoy watching the children sledding/snowboarding. A park for enjoying...
