The CNY Playhouse production of 1776 was excellent - at least from what I could see and hear. Our experience with the facility was horrible.
1776 is a musical I fell in love with during high school. When our German exchange student requested a true American 4th of July experience I was thrilled to discover the CNY Playhouse was presenting 1776. I went to the website and ordered tickets and received an email confirmation from the theater.
Tonight five of us joyfully headed out to have dinner near the mall so we could get to the theater. I thoroughly checked the website for what entrance to use. When I didn't find it, I felt confident there would be signs and arrows pointing to the correct entrance. We spent quite a while driving around checking and never found any. We asked some people in the parking lot who thought they knew, so we parked the car and went in. Even the mall map was confusing. We then started asking people if they knew where it was. It was at the opposite end of the mall and when we arrived we has to wait for them to set up another row of chairs - in the very back for us. Granted, our 20 minutes of driving around and walking the mall had certainly delayed our arrival.
If this company wants the general public to attend their performances, something has to change. We live 45 minutes away, planned our entire evening around this activity and the lack of signs, information and seats left me in tears. I am sorry to the cast after having put so much time into this play to have the my review ending up reflecting on their...
Read moreSay what you will, I totally experienced the willing suspension of disbelief whilst watching Nevermore. At twenty dollars a ticket, this theater offers value and greater intimacy than any Broadway space can afford. It's essentially a black box with cabaret seating for over one hundred guests. How can this small playhouse can mount twelve productions a season? And yet, CNY playhouse does! Overlook the mall setting. Bring a few small bottles to sip secretively during intermission out in the mall court, chilly because of cut backs but suffer a little for art, right. The playhouse is climate controlled and now warm. Cool in summer? I hope. Walk over to Scotch & Sirloin for an after...
Read moreOh my goodness! Annie was absolutely wonderful! This was the first show we've seen at CNYP and it did not disappoint! We were so impressed with ALL of the actors. The music was outstanding and every person (and dog) on that stage seemed to having a wonderful time! Annie is my favorite show and no matter how many times I see it, I love it every time. I have to say of the four venues I've experienced, this one was the best! Casual, fun, flexible and showcased so much talent and giftedness. Thanks for all of...
