I attended the Styx concert on November 10th at the beautiful Stanley Theatre. I traveled 5 hours to see them perform and the show was amazing as always. Styx is a legendary rock band and this was my 10th time seeing them in concert. I do have to say that I was very displeased with my seating as well as the lack of security at this concert. Our seats were orchestra level seats with seating to the right of the stage. Yes we saw the seating chart before purchasing and yes we chose best available seats. Who knew that the sound system would be set up obstructing our view. We had three seats for $84 dollars each and we saw only half the stage. Each time Tommy Shaw walked up the stairs to sing we lost vision of him. Every time Tommy took a step to the right away from his floor mic we lost vision of him. I picked these seats to the right because of Tommy's position on stage. Maybe the fact that these seats were an obstructed view should have been disclosed before allowing me to buy what was deemed best available. Whomever hired security for this concert whether it was the Stanley or the sponsors of the concert should maybe rethink how much security is actually needed. People on the balcony level were pouring beer onto people in the center orchestra level. You should not have to get up in the middle of a concert to find security to let them know what is happening in the crowd. Where was security when people were randomly leaving their seats to go watch from the isle again obstructing what little view we did have. Three quarters into the show is when security showed up to crowd control. I expected more from this venue as I have seen numerous concerts at the Stanley throughout the years. Styx is a rocking band and people are going to rock out with them so maybe next time you should be prepared for excited fans and better ticket...
Read moreThis theater is beautiful. For it being in Utica it truly is gorgeous. The alcohol is around $11 which isn't bad. I recently went to the dirty dancing show and it turned out it was a movie with some occasional singing 😂 not the Broadway show I expected. I need to read things before I buy tickets. If you are looking for a fun night out in a beautiful theater this is the place. It's also next to a cute little bar that also has food. I've been to the Stanley around 15 to 20 times and loved it. This last time no one said you couldn't go outside and smoke and no one stopped a few of us. When I got out there I got my head bitten off by someone so I will not ever go out for a smoke during intermission again. Other than that it was fantastic. I'll post a snip from the dirty dancing show we seen. WE LAUGHED SO HARD when we realized I did not read this show properly and got us expensive tickets to watch a movie with a little bit of singing. Still a great show just not what I thought I...
Read moreMy friend and I have now seen 2 of the 6 shows involved in the season of 22=23 season. The the shows were great. However, very disappointed and upset about other issues that we found upsetting. Up to 40 minutes into the shows people were shown to their seats with flashlights. This was very distracting from the stage actions. People constantly up and down the aisle through out plays. Noise created behind our seats with young people making popping noises with plastic bottles through out entire play. Audience very noisy and unsettling throughout play. Etc, etc. Parking unacceptable. Public bathrooms up giant stairs of which my friend cannot go up. Not enough rest rooms down stairs. We have 3 plays left and I am not looking forward to them. I will never purchase season tickets again. I have attended many theaters and had none of the issues above. I love the theater but will not pay GOOD money...
