I do the 1.5 or 2 mile loop here on the VA Park perimeter (the signs say both distances so who knows how long the trail is. Ask the mayor, it is designated his fitness trail ha.) I bring my dog here because he loves this place. Yet I don't care for it quite as much. There are ticks, people don't pick up their dog poo at all, much worse than other local parks, with the droppings being a big problem WV folks don't seem to mind, and sometimes bike riders are here even though the rules say nope, no bikes allowed. Sadly the "fitness trail" exercises are mostly broken and unusable. This trail is best used as a walking loop, just watch your step. Wear old shoes. This park does have a few nice things: the river is a nice walk and the ducks, which seem to be year-round residents, are cool. Say hello to that white feller! There is also a grey gander that acts as a lifeguard to all the ducks. I think the white duck and the grey gander escaped a farm and are hiding out. Like something from a children's book. The trail is a long ways, with more wildlife like ground squirrels, grey squirrels, and even semi-tame deer. There is a boat ramp at one parking lot and another big lot, each lot at opposite ends of the trail loop. (In winter, the boat ramp lot is sometimes closed but the other lot is always open.) There are mostly nice folks that visit here. By the river near the boat ramp, one can find mulberry trees, as well as blackberries and a few raspberries. There is also a double dog park at the boat ramp lot between the ball fields. I believe the staff here do an excellent job with what they are afforded, it just needs more investment.
Overall: if you have a pup or like to jog, this trail is worth checking out to see if it...
Read moreThe park is spread out The main entrance offers the beginning of the trail that goes clock wise about a mile around the perimeter of the park. There is a "water park" featuring a lazy river, 2 water slides a kids pool and a normal pool. I find it to be crowded most of the time it's open. There is mini golf, disc golf a playground. The next entrance straight up the hill is for the amphitheater as well as a memorial garden and several pavilions. The 3rd entrance is past the VA hospital down over the hill where you can access a dog park and baseball fields as well a popular fishing spot and the trail. There is a lot to do and everything is clean bathrooms are decent the only complaint and it's very minimal, they have fit stations that are not kept up with a...
Read moreIt's a good place to bring the family and cool off and have a nice time. Staff/ lifeguards are good. Water was pretty warm when we were there. I'd say probably about 75° so when you got in or out you stayed at a nice comfortable temperature. The only thing I think that would have made it 5 stars is if we could bring coolers in or even just a small one where they can check it as you enter. I mean, I get it/ understand there are health and safety reasons why you can't and if they checked everyone, it would take longer to get inside... anyway. Just hope this review helps someone. Oh, and the prices i think are reasonable to get in and for the...
