There are two engines that you can sit in the conductors seat which was cool, there's also a caboose, a baggage car and a dining car that were all nice too. The passenger car and the sleeper car give you a perspective of space but the sleeper car is pretty gross. There really is no direction given when you buy your ticket and just have to find your own way around. It would be nice if there was at least an audio tour available. The saving grace of our visit was one of the guys that works there showed up as we were leaving and talked to us, answered some of our questions and told us some stories. If he started us out I would probably up this to 3 out 5 stars but wandering around trying door knobs with some uncertainty as to whether we were supposed to be there or not made for an...
Read moreThis was a fun place to visit. The kids enjoyed it, which was key. The exhibit building has A/C and was a nice place to cool off and read their informative signs - they have tons of neat info. Also bathrooms and a drinking fountain. For a small town I was impressed by the exhibit, and was happy to pay admission to keep it going/growing. That said, It felt a little pricy for what it has. Although, they have a tiny train the kids (and parents) can ride around and that made admission feel a little better spent. Our kids (6,4,2) really enjoyed the ride. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is for cleanliness. Several cars had cobwebs. Some were dirty. But, I am sure they are working towards restoring those. It is very worth going here...
Read moreThis is the most friendly, informative, and honest museum I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. They take so much pride in their heritage, it makes me wish I lived closer to help restore some of these amazing pieces they have. The level of details ranging from the smallest tools & china from the dining cars, to the interpretation of equipment that gave the C&O it's image was done with due care. Some of the equipment might not look pristine, but with donations, volunteers, and sponsors, that could most definitely change. The $8 I paid for admission was well worth hours of entertainment for the afternoon, if not an entire day. The gift shop also was well stocked with great C&O, Chessie merchandise for all ages. Definitely worth the...
