Amazing place with interesting exhibits for adults and kids. We took our granddaughters, ages 5-10, and they loved it. Over 10,000 carefully labeled seashells from around the world, dinosaur skeletons, bones, and fossils from the area and Texas, arrowheads and artifacts from old homesteads and the Karankawa Indians, beautiful carved ivory collection, gemstones and rocks, taxidermy area with Texas animals, and a hurricane simulator. Also, a small play area with interesting things to do. We visited the art gallery in the building, as well. Highly recommend this FREE activity! We did make a donation, however.

Thank you chatgpt, got rained out in a little family beach vacation and got to get in the last hour this place was open on a Sunday. So grateful as it was amazing, wish we had gotten there sooner so we could've taken it all in a bit more. Make sure to donate or purchase something from the shop when visiting the places to help keep the doors open.

It is a nice little free museum with lots of things in it. My wife and I can't wait to bring our little one next time. There is quite a bit to do in it. For one thing, it has one of the best shell collections i have ever seen. Second, take a picture by the dimetrodon statue, it is way cool. Finally, check out the flourescent rocks behind the curtain, you wont be disappointed. This is a nice, old school museum with not a lot of glitz and glamour but has a lot of heart. This is a free museum with a wonderful collection of shells and fascinating exhibits. Not limited to the Gulf of Mexico, the large shell collection has featured exhibits along with dozens of drawers full of additional specimens. They have butterflies, fossils, minerals, mammals, birds, and other artifacts as well. There are numerous kids activities. Everything is pretty self-guided and very relaxed. The gift shop is small but has some very cool stuff that is VERY affordable. They do not take credit cards, so bring some cash.
