My older daughter had an event at Kenyon College so we figured that we would take the younger girls to the art museum. Granted, it is my fault that I didn't research more. I figured that it may not be as big as the OSU wexner center, but I was anticipating more like Oberlin College's art center. They only had one exhibit and unfortunately it was a little heavy for 7 year olds. But we made it work and explained things as we went along. A few things were way too graphic for them, so we did censor a bit. But at the end they had an exhibit to design a protest poster. So the girls each chose a platform and each made a poster. They had so much fun. They were then allowed to add it to the exhibit. How many 7 year olds get to say they have displayed their art work in a gallery exhibit? So all in all,...
Read moreIt’s a pity that the Gund Gallery doesn’t want to show student work at the same capacity anymore for the Senior Capstone Exhibitions :( It’s also a pity that for over a decade this gallery has tried to remove faculty shows from the Gund Gallery as well. This causes a lot of distress for the Kenyon Art Department: a lot of emotional energy is spent FIGHTING. I think a good gallery at a college would want to help launch student careers by giving them a great place to show, document, etc before going off into the real world.
