I didn't stay at the Kenyon Inn but my husband and I and two others had a meal there. We had tickets to attend a concert in nearby Mount Vernon, OH. I thought I had made a reservation for that evening for dinner at a fine dining restaurant in Mount Vernon. However, something happened I'm not sure what, but my reservation was on their books for the next night, NOT the night of the concert. They were very nice about it, but at that late date, there wasn't anything they could do about it as, predictably their restaurant was completely booked that evening. So I called The Kenyon Inn and we ended up going there. It is a little difficult in the dark to navigate finding the restaurant as the GPS wanted to take us to the front of the Kenyon Inn, where there is no parking and it was pitch black. Once we finally got our bearings...we went into the building. We were greeted by the nicest and friendliest receptionist...whose name I did not get...unfortunately. She is also a server in the restaurant in addition to working on the desk to take care of the overnight guests. The dining room is small, intimate and there are very comfortable chairs! Kayla was our server. She did a wonderful job. The food selection was nice and varied. There were features offered not on the menu and the other three people had the evening special of twin tournedos of beef. They all enjoyed it immensely. The carrot/apple soup of the day was excellent. I had the lemon garlic pasta and shrimp with the strawberry salad. The salad was very good, however, instead of strawberries, I was served small tomatoes...it is November, after all. The salad dressing was exceptional. The lemon garlic pasta and shrimp was delicious and I'd order it again any day! Kayla took care of us with ample time to drive back to Mount Vernon with time to spare for the concert to start. It is always nice to dine at either restaurant because the food and service is excellent at both. Know you have options up there in these two charming small towns! My husband and friends were happy I was able to think fast enough to pivot and make this very last minute change in our dinner plans. I've dined at The Kenyon Inn before and I have always liked it! I knew...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I purchased a Special Gift Certificate for a one night stay and dinner or lunch for two through a Ronald McDonald House silent auction and were looking forward to a weekend getaway at the Kenyon Inn. We purchased the certificate only a few months ago and it expires on August 1st, so we tried to book our night towards the end of July but were told that they have filled the rooms with students for the rest of the summer. No big deal, we were willing to wait and book out when they eventually do have vacancy.||||Unfortunately, we spoke with the manager of the Kenyon Inn and were told that they will not book our night or honor our certificate outside of the free meal, and that we should have booked sooner when they might have had some vacancy. After some pushing with them they said they would give us an extra meal at their restaurant, but that kind of defeats the purpose of why we bid on the certificate in the first place (and really isn’t equivalent to what the certificate entitled us to, anyway). We live over an hour away and would rather not drive there on two separate occasions just to have dinner.||||All in all we were very disappointed in our interaction with the Kenyon Inn and the manager. The manager was very rude with us about the situation, who raised his voice with us while telling us that he was not going to honor the certificate that their business had donated to the charity. At the end of the day, I don’t regret giving my money to the Ronald McDonald House (an awesome charity) but wish that this situation would have been handled differently. It’s not on us that the Kenyon Inn was booked out to students for the entire summer, and there is an obvious solution to extend the certificate out when it would be possible for us to book a night. We love exploring and supporting small businesses but we think it is important to support small businesses which have integrity and call out the businesses that are willing to grift their potential patrons out of what might have been a couple hundred bucks. If we ever find ourselves in the Mt. Vernon area, we will likely just stay at The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel (or even the Holiday...
