It's a nice little lake with a beautiful view of the mountains.
But this lake is SO over crowded. On weekends and holidays, forget it. If you're not there by 7 AM, then good luck finding parking.
The parking is VERY limited. Once the lots and approved areas on the dam are filled, then people park illegally on the grass, in the bike lanes on the main road, along the curbs, etc.
Tensions mount as the lake crowds. There are people yelling at each other for using the entire ramp access road as their private loading and unloading zone, people confront each other for driving the wrong way through the parking lot, I've seen police called because a car was getting vandalized during peak hours because of an argument.
The portable bathrooms are poorly maintained and always a complete mess due to the crowds. Oftentimes, there are broken bottles in the parking lot, fishing line is all over the place to include in the trees. On occasion, I've seen people step on hooks left behind.
It's becoming this way during the week too, although not quite to the extent as it is on weekends or holidays. Recently, I've tried to come at 7 or 8 PM on a Friday or Saturday, and the lots, dam, and roads are still full.
While there is a lot to do on the water from fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, it's so very crowded on the water as well as the shore. On the water, there are so many people that you have to keep an eye out so you don't bump into each other. The shore and piers are elbow to elbow with people fishing.
On the east parking lot there is a paddleboard organization that lines the entire shore by the boat ramp with no regard to who might be there fishing first, and you risk getting lectured or scolded by them if you take up space on the boatramp. Another paddleboard organization sometimes operates from the west parking lot too.
It's a quaint small lake with nice views as stated, but the overcrowding is out of control. For those that park illegally, I rarely see parking enforced by the city. So it's like the overcrowding is encouraged.
I understand the close access of the lake for most of the people, but if you and your family have a choice, then I'd advise looking elsewhere to fish, kayak,...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve always tried to love this spot, started coming back to walk the lake last month cars parked with questionable activity (same car different women daily, white smoke coming out if window cracks with foil coverings for privacy) some vehicles & RVs never move & some folks may be living in their vehicles parking along the street
Lots of arguments & fighting usually closer to afternoon hours feels unsafe
ā¼ļøTAKE NOTE:restrooms padlocked to hold doors open (makes me feel like they donāt want someone to be able to lock you in)
Yesterday I walked down into the trails along the path & l was recording foliage when I came across what appears to be ā¼ļøā¼ļøā¼ļøHUMAN FECES in a large tin can with a lid on the ground next to it
