I know that some people in the reviews are grossed out by the beach, but honestly what do people expect when going to a "beach" in Colorado?? I will give people the fact that there was a bit of trash, but it wasn't at all overwhelming. Similar to what you see at a regular beach. They seem to pick up anything huge in the evenings when people leave. Still, you'll find random stuff here and there like bottle caps, cans/bottles. Keep your eyes open and you'll see stuff you want to avoid clear as day. The sand is very soft, not rocky like chatfield. The water isn't really that gross for a reservoir, but it is a reservoir, what do people really expect? Water is decent in temp, a little cold but very easy to get used to. The water isn't deep, very kid friendly. You can easily walk 20 feet out without the water going up much past your legs. If you want deeper water, there are sections of the beach with that! Very dog friendly, dogs left and right. If you best friend loves water, this is a fantastic option. Let's Be honest, if you want the genuine ocean, fly somewhere that isn't in the middle of the continent. If you want it badly enough, you'll find a way. What you get for the price (1 car of people for 11 bucks), very good deal. Get a year pass, it's an even better deal at 120. There is a nice jungle gym plus a bathroom right by the beach as well. Cherry Creek has a lot of amenities, not just the reservoir. Out of the reservoirs within the Denver metro, I would have to say this is definitely one of the best. If you're unnecessarily picky and love to be upset about the smallest things, stay away and leave it for the people who just want to enjoy it. It's a fantastic place to meet family and friends to have a great day for not a lot of money. It reminds me of how lively the beaches were in Puerto Rico, a very good vibe, families and friends enjoying the day mutually! No judgemental people that I noticed! Go enjoy yourselves! PICK UP YOUR TRASH/ANIMAL WASTE FOR EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE! Lets keep it looking great.

I visited this beach on a road trip from Minnesota. I now realize how lucky I am as a resident of Minnesota to have the lakes and beaches that I do. I am used to water so clear that you can see the fish and plant life 10 feet below you and pristine beaches with no trash or animal poop in sight. So, it is an understatement to say I was severely disappointed. The first thing you are greeted with when you walk on the beach is the smell. It reeks of fish and rotting seaweed and goose poop. It is so bad that you are gagging on it. Then, when you get down to the beach, you find the source of the smell is quite literally poop and slimy seaweed. You get in the water and realize it never gets deeper than 3 feet in the swimming area and that you can't even see your own feet with how murky and gross the water is. Even the surroundings are sad. No trees. No grass. Just dirt, rock, and a cement wall. I was happiest when leaving 30 minutes after...

After going to Chatfield every summer for the last few years and the beach there being in VERY unattractive shape due to the higher water level, the rains we had etc (several dead fish on the shore and in the water), we decided to try Cherry Creek and I'm so glad we did! The entire location is sooo much nicer than Chatfield! The beach is nice, plenty of trees for shade, and the water appears fairly clean. The one thing I would say I "disliked", if I had to name something, is that it's more of a party crowd beach, and apparently each party feels obliged to blast their own music for the entire beach to listen to, so at times we'd hear three different kinds of music all at the same time. But all in all, we had a GREAT time here and we'll be back next...
