I was happy and now I am not !
It started December 23rd 2016. I purchased a Nikon D500. I paid nearly $2600.00 for it and some equipment. I took it home and took my first pictures with it at a christmas eve party The pictures came out blurry. I was shocked I took more pictures and they would come out with some being good and some blurry or soft.
I took the camera back to Mid West several times, the sales reps told me it was user error. I believed them, and kept studying this issue. I kept the camera past the 15 day return policy believing that it was "user error" I had purchased thousands of dollars worth of cameras over the years, so I truly believed them.
Eventually by February 15th I decided the camera was just too hard for me to use. I took it to midwest and traded it in for a Sony A7II. Instantly I was happy again. The Sony A7II took crisp and clear pics, but I took a several hundred dollar loss. " I took that one on the chin"
Since February 15th I have been buying lenses and equipment from them
During this time one of Midwests salesmen who was a photographer admitted to me that they took that camera out and could see what I was saying about soft images. I appreciated his honesty.
Last week I helped a friend out with a wedding. I called to see what a 55mm lense for a sony was. I was quoted $30. When I got to the store it cost me around $ 37.00.
The lense they gave me was dirty, the body scratched up and looked like it had been dropped a few times. The lense had a cap that kept falling off and the lense hood was missing.
Now I keep my camera in Mint Condition, it is super clean and looks brand new. As I drove home, I just could not stand to put that dirty lense on my camera. I stopped at world of photography and bought a new lense.
The next day I returned the lense. I complained , but my complaint seemedcto be ignored. Iwas charged full price for the lense.
I was upset and spoke to the manager. I left angry and upset.
My friend who also rented equipment had issues as well. The tripod fell apart during the wedding rehearsal and the video camera battery died right in the middle of a wedding .
I sent an email and complained and was advised that I would be issued a check for a refund for the rental.
I really loved this store. The sales reps have always been good to me, but I am not sure if I will ever return.

I’m a destination wedding photographer, I reached out to the location because I had a wedding locally. Upon speaking with Luis he informed me what was needed to rent equipment. I went with the COI option (Copy of insurance) I sent this over to him before hand and he said everything looks good. We just need to update some verbiage on the COI. Without hesitation I contacted my insurance and updated this. I sent it back over to him and followed up. Took me about 5 tries to actually get him on the phone. He then said “Your insurance company won’t verify your information with me on the phone” … I said well yea, because your not me and your probably asking confidential information” , so I said we can call them on 3 way and I can give the ok to speak with you. He then randomly asked if I had a website. And said he can’t call on 3 way for some reason that he has to call direct. So I then said I can come into the store and we can call together. He said “yea sure” send me your credentials and we can try this” … after sending in my information. I tried to call back 3 more times could not get a hold of him. I get to the store to find out he left for the day. And without any communication to me.
So I talked to some other rep. Gave him my name and he says “oh Luis was working on this and he’s gone” So I explained the situation to him, he goes in the back and I guess he calls Luis. He comes back out and says we can’t verify your insurance, so we can’t rent to you.
I stated “well I’m here now, can we call them now”?? The guy at the counter said “we can only call them directly to verify and you’re not allowed to speak with them first”… lol.. I asked the guy if he hears how he sounds?? I said you can dial the same number you dialed before FROM YOUR STORE PHONE and I can simply authorize them to give you what ever information you need.. all the rep said was “I’m sorry I can’t”
I’ve never once been through a situation like this and I’ve been in the industry for many many years. In my opinion I’d avoid this store. Complete waste of time and...
Read moreOne of the worst online shopping experiences. I believe now i know why bhphoto is a success and they are not. I made my first online order with them and they committed on shipping before 3pm ET, until next day its not shipped, tried sending an email to support which goes unanswered. Imagine you paying $35 for next day arrival and these people not keeping their promise of even shipping, forget the delivery. Next morning i called and seems half their staff isn't aware of the online order process itself, not even an apology to say that although they commit same day shipping they do not do it. Anyways finally in my second call i got to talk to a lady, who says its possibly a fraudulent transaction and its my first online order with them so they are un sure, i asked them if i can provide my id, my address proof and payment proof (please note payment was through paypal) and she says that does not help, I checked with them how do people make their first order and she does not have an answer, upon requesting to talk to a supervisor i learnt he is busy with important stuff and can't talk. Anyways couple of hours later and wasting a lost of my time they sent an email that they cancelled the order. I called again to talk to supervisor and was willing tk give a second try on order as item was costing less with them due to no taxes. But the gentleman who picked the phone this time, although he was a pleasant guy to talk to and apologetic , he was un sure of what i can do to make sure that my order goes through, upon requesting to talk to supervisor, i again learnt that he was busy with something and would return my call shortly, which did not happen, anyways ordered with B&H around 4pm est and item will be delivered by fedex by 10.30qm tomorrow at $18. So yes, lesson learnt that although b&h charged by qpprox $70 in taxes, however the shipping being halved and their service and cuatomer centric behavior is something that every business should learn from.
