Backwater Adventure — Attraction in Marco Island

FIVE STARS! We had one of the best days in Marco Island with Captain Clay yesterday! We went wake boarding and tubing with our family of five. My sons are 15, 12 and 6. He taught us all what to do and each of the boys had so much fun. It’s not the easiest to find an activity where they are each equally excited, but this did it! My oldest fell in love with wake boarding and was incredible at it. My 12 year old tried to wake board, liked it but loved the tubing and my 6 year old had a blast tubing. Captain Clay was super fun, engaging, funny, entertaining AND he paid close attention to what each person needed and gave it to them. He drove nice a slow tubing for my youngest so he would have fun and not be scared. He knew when to turn things up for the adults and my teenager. We felt safe and had a day we will never forget. We even got to play with the dolphins who jumped around us as we played in the water. It was amazing. Breakwater is fortunate to have such a perfect Captain as part of their water sports crew. Our trip started out well. We enjoyed the scenery and driving the boats. The trouble started at the half way point when we stopped at the island for swimming and shelling. The boat my husband and I were driving broke down. Our guide said that the owner was going to bring a replacement boat so we could continue our trip. He was supposed to be there in about 15 minutes. An hour later we were told that the owner refused to bring another boat and our guide would have to tow us back. It took us two hours to be towed back at idle speed on a blazing hot, muggy day. The website advertised that we would be driving the boat ourselves. Due to their faulty equipment we were only able to do this for half the trip and felt that half of our money should have been refunded. The owner refused. He gave us $25 per person back. We paid $600 for this trip. It was definitely not worth the money. I would not recommend using this company since they do not stand behind their advertised product. Our guide was fantastic. The mini-cat was really fun. Guide Eric was not great. After paying $340 for two people and signing your life away and those of all your relatives online (don’t buy the insurance- it’s a scam) we got the talk from Eric about how knowledgeable he is and about his dolphin “friends.” We also found out that he has a ridiculous paranoia about bananas, and he was very rude. After hearing him tell us multiple times that our safety was his utmost priority, we discovered this was untrue after WE found the dolphin, then he let us get sucked down a narrow channel while he took the rest of the group into the bay to see the dolphin. I managed to navigate the boat out, no thanks to our guide (and the boat barely had a working “reverse”). Eric even said it was impressive that I got the boat turned around in there.
