Just like everything else in this area, the reviews here for Horizon at Marley Station are very generous. They are not deserving of such a high rating but are given wonderful reviews because it's a small town where people support the local attractions no matter how bad they are. I think the Horizon cinema here takes advantage of the generosity of the locals, knowing regardless they will be well reviewed, and provides a terrible experience for all.
I saw a movie twice this weekend. Firstly at Horizon Cinemas at Marley Station and again the next day at another cinema. Both were early in the day and both days it was 90 degrees outside.
At Horizon, my ticket was $10 and my large popcorn was $7. There is only one bathroom as far I could tell and it was by the concessions. This means if you have to "go" during the movie then you have to basically exit, go to the bathroom, line up to show your ticket and run back to the theatre.
The screen is small, the air is warm and stagnant and on a warm day there is a waft of body odor floating in the air. Every 3-5 minutes the air conditioner would turn on, but only for a minute, and the odors of the room would dissipate for a moment. The room immediately heats up when it switches off and there is no air flow.
The seats are ok, they recline very far back but there is no privacy screen behind the chairs, so you can see the row behind you out the corner of your eye. The stench in the cinema could have been from unclean chairs. A hot, sweaty room with sticky vinyl chairs that I doubt the staff are wiping down between viewings. Yuck.
The small screen has rather visible imperfections, a small tear here and a mark there. The worst part is they don't even FOCUS the picture. So many things were out of focus that were not when I saw the movie elsewhere. The coloring and contrast are terrible, it is much darker than it should be.
The sound is horrific. There is no surround sound. I was surprised to find a movie with so many silent bits. During the silent bits you can clearly hear the neighboring theatre playing. Well when I re-watched the movie there were no silent bits. Horizon cinema's lack of surround sound completely cut off the ambient noises of the movie. Where faint noises should have been it was complete silence.
They turned the lights on the instant the credits started and then turned the movie off mid credits.
My $7 popcorn was without a doubt the previous days batch of popcorn IF NOT even older than that. It was so stale and full of unpopped kernels. By the end of the movie I had a pile almost as big as my hands of inedible bits.
Now, I think the "cheap" prices add to the inflated reviews here but the cinema I saw the same movie at the next day, my ticket was $7.50 and my huge fresh perfectly popped popcorn was $7.50. There was a restroom right outside the theatre. I had a lovely CLEAN reclining chair and the air was fresh, almost sanitized smelling, with constantly running air conditioning. The screen was literally twice the size, zero imperfections, the picture was focused and adjusted perfectly. They had true dolby surround sound to really take you away for the experience. And it was CHEAPER than this horrific cinema at Marley Station.

Read moreJust attending a private screening kids party at Marley Station Horizon Theater. Our kids had an absolutely amazing time. Typically, with young children, it is uncertain how they will be at the movies. You don't want to interrupt someone else's movie experience or be a nuisance. However, getting to attend an event like this, being a private screening with friends and family, takes so much of the stress out of it, and everyone had an amazing time. It was great to determine how long our kids could sit still and focus on a movie without distractions like we have at home. The reclining spacious seats were extremely comfortable and it contributed greatly towards extending our children's attention and focus on the movie. The private screening also included a small party room that the kids can go to and relax if they need a break from the movie. Also, being that the theater is in the mall, we could also take an extended break from the movie if needed. I do recommend bringing earplugs in case the volume of the movie might be too loud for the kids and a jacket since the air conditioning might be too chilly for some. The theater has a great cleaning crew, but it is always worthwhile to teach kids theater etiquette during the movie and good manners afterwards by picking up after themselves. We would certainly be booking our children's parties at Horizon Cinemas going forward. The private screenings that our hosts explained to us ranged between $199-$250 for up to 30 attendees depending on the Horizon Cinema location. They can accommodate more people, it's just a little extra. Reservations can be on any day Mon-Sunday, based on availability of course. The website for Horizon booking, did state that grayed out dates are not available but at least another parent stated the calendar marked M-F as grayish but it's not actually gray blocked out so always worthwhile to pick the date and time you want and they will let you know if it's possible. Outside food is prohibited but they have a great catering menu for the theater, the 12in pizzas, waffle fries and fountain drinks were perfect. They also have kid’s packs that include popcorn, candy and a drink. The only exception they do make is for cake or cupcakes from home to be served after the screening. Just don't exceed the extra 30mins post movie in the party room to serve cake/cupcakes. It's a curtesy and free option with the private screening/party booking to get the extra 30mins post movie so I completely understand the parents who hosted the party ensured everyone was respectful and cleaned up after themselves the best they could. Great lessons for kids to learn and practice in general. This was one of the best party and movie experiences. I wish we had know sooner this was possible but certainly looking forward to coming here for movies in general and...
Read moreI am not sure who to contact. I am letting you know whomever the manager on duty tonight 5/23/25 at your theater in Marley Station was ridiculously ignorant to me and my family. We showed up for the move the young girl at the kiosk scanned my phone and gave me my 4 tickets. We bought our snacks and headed to the second older women at the drink station to check our tickets. She looked at all 4, and directed us where to go. The move time was 6:15. At about 6:45 people were saying we had their seats. The manager came in and asked for my tickets, I handed them over. They were dated for 5/26. I did not know that. So he kicked us out of the theater with 2 7 yr old girls! Yes I take partial blame I didn’t realize I was there on the wrong day, but he did not even offer to help find us new seats or offer the next movie time. He proceeded to say he kicks people out of the moves all the time. He also said that the 2nd older lady to check my tickets was never there. I MADE that up! I said so your customers are wrong ?!??? I have no reason to lie. At that point he rolled his eyes and gave me a refund. He is terrible at his job and should of offered to help find us something else! I do not need eye rolls and being told I am liar in front of my kids. I hope something is said to him, he really needs a class in customer service!!!
Sincerely, 1 Pissed off Mom
