I have been going to this location for 11 years (including the Gold's Gym time) and this location is in absolute desperate need of support. The local management team appears to have little interest in improving the conditions and they continue to slide from "below average" towards "unsanitary and unsafe." Specific notes:
Cleanliness: the reviews on the cleanliness of the facility are accurate; it needs a higher frequency of general cleaning, and the bathrooms are well below average.
Timeliness: the morning attendants do not arrive to open the facility at least once a month, leaving ~30-40 members waiting outside; most of us wait 30 minutes before leaving. This happened today (March 20th, 2025)
Cardio Equipment: an increasing number of treadmills are broken, and remain broken for weeks, if not months.
Cardio Environment: this location has 8 TV screens, with only 5 actually working. The 5 working TVs are tuned to only 2 different channels, and the attendant does not know how to change channels. People are doing cardio watching informercials or old TV shows. This has been a problem for a decade.
Weights: there are misc. weights scattered throughout the facility, and there appears to be no effort (staff or patrons) to return them to their original locations. This problem is increasing.
Staff: while attendants are generally friendly, they are not empowered to do much of anything and occasionally don't even show up to open the gym. They appear to only open the door and sit at the desk.
As a nearby resident, I hate to see comments saying "avoid this gym at all costs" but it's hard for me to disagree. This location appears to have trapped anyone nearby into the automatic-pay, substandard experience too common to soulless box gyms. I would like to help them improve the facility for the many nice people that...
Read moreIt has been 1 year since LA Fitness took over Gold's Gym. It is has been a quick decline! Equipment is increasingly "expecting maintenance", the working equipment is deteriorating (torn padding, missing pins for machines, child care gone, 1 vending machine 1/2 empty, etc). The ONLY reason I work out here is convenience and I like the layout. Some staff are very pleasant, others look like they hate their job.
Also, the gym is now 99% men.....ugh!
UPDATE 12/9/24: I was a member at the previous Gold's gym for 20+ years and LOVED them......then LA Fitness took over the location and it has been a swift DECLINE! My photo below shows the biggest complaint...........lack of machine maintenance!! BUT, to show how cheap they are.......notice the TV's with ONE channel playing on the 3 active monitors, while the others are just dark..........they won't even pay for a cable channel!
This past weekend I tried to bring my wife in as a Guest.........they said $20 bucks (my monthly dues are $40)! They would not take a guest coupon since wife had been there 8 months ago......and even though she is going to retire in March and WOULD have joined, the manager said "Sorry"! GREAT customer service guys.
Like most, I go here because I like the layout and location.................but everything is in decline, including the members! Rude, stinky people who are so inconsiderate they think you like hearing them sing aloud next to you, sit on machines for 30 minutes looking at their phones, or my favorite.....the tools who occupy more than one machine at a time.
Sorry to the Manager, but this is a mismanaged, rundown gym with employees who look like they...
Read morePLEASE BEWARE: THE BATHROOMS DO SMELL LIKE PEE, TAKE A TOUR/TRIAL DAY AND SEE IF YOU CAN HANDLE THE BATHROOM SMELL Been here for a year+ now and the equipment is always in pretty bad shape. Most of the people posting the broken/taped machines, those are still broken/taped. One of the water fountains consistently tastes funny. A decent amount of the people that go here are weird af and combative. There's some regulars that scream their entire workout. Not avg powerlifting grunt but literal schizo screaming. At the same time you get dummies (not the staff, but random people) regularly telling you to not slam weights on the platform while doing normal DLs or cleans. I've honestly never been to an LA fitness that was this bad but this place is wild.
Only reason I still go to this location is because it's right across from my community garden but honestly 4 stars for funny environment, location, and the fact that they have so many squat racks and a decent amount of platforms. A lot of people are nice about working in when there's a wait for a rack. There's never a shortage of bars even though some of them are 5000 years old and have no knurling. Fun place but not for the...
