With numerous beaches in the vicinity, choosing where to spend last Friday afternoon was a delightful dilemma. Opting for this spot proved rewarding, offering the choice of lounging beneath the shade of numerous pine trees lining the beach, with scattered picnic benches, or laying a mat on the soft, smooth sand under the gentle warmth of the sun (ideal for the somewhat unpredictable weather that day). Despite the sunshine, it remained surprisingly cold. We savored the moment, relaxing amidst the scenery, observing geese casually strolling along the sand, sometimes approaching beachgoers but mostly going about their business. Some beachgoers even set up tents and brought an array of drinks and food – quite enviable!
The sight of the clear blue-green water against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains was enchanting. Taking a swim in the lake, I noted the invigoratingly cool water temperature (truly cold). Kayak rentals adorned the beach, and the water was dotted with various vessels – kayaks, motorboats, and sailboats in the distance.
For those driving to the beach, there's a parking lot available with a $10 entrance fee. Once paid, you'll find ample parking right by the beach. If you opt not to pay, street parking is an alternative, but be prepared for a lengthy walk from the main road to the beach. I highly recommend the paid parking, especially if you have a considerable number of items to carry.
This review comes a bit late, reflecting on a visit to Lake Tahoe last summer. Despite the season, the weather remained remarkably chilly, and the water was refreshingly cold. The journey from the Bay Area was...
Read moreMeh. I've been to Kings beach in the north and Sand Harbor in the east, so I figured I'd check out a beach in the south. It has its good points and bad. It's a beautiful tree lined beach with lots of shade. However, the water is colder than the other beaches and the sand is very course. The sand goes 2" down then there's dirt, not good for sand castles and everyone was filthy when we left. The waves here are strong, which is good if you own kayaks and know how to use them. It's bad if you want to relax in a floaty, try as hard as you can to paddle out and you'll immediately be washed back to shore. The biggest irritation here is that they rent kayaks and unfortunately people don't know how to use them and can't control them in the strong waves. I can't count how many renters crashed into me because they can't control their kayak. Then they yell at everyone to get out of the way. Excuse me, but you SHOULD have more control over your kayak then I have sitting on a floaty. You can definitely till the renters from the owners. If you come here park all the way at the end and away from the kayak rentals. Overall, the other...
Read moreNice area, lots of space and shade for picnic on this beach. It can be crowded, but due to amount of space - you should be able to find a spot for your family. Parking situation is ok - if you plan on bringing lot of stuff or picnic - suggest you get a trolley. And a stroller for younger kids. If you don't find parking near beach and on weekends it's quite possible, you have to park on street which can be a bit of walk for elderly and kids. You can find a spot typically late afternoon or evening - good idea for one person to go get car from street and park in the parking to save a trip for everyone else when you see parking lot getting emptied. The staff at entrance is excellent - thank you! Coal fire is not allowed for obvious reasons, so if you plan on bbq get a gas one. There is plenty of space to get in water for both adults and children. Children seem to really enjoy in water with floaties etc. and also playing with sand on the beach. Recommend getting either a tent of an umbrella during summer months just to get shade, if you plan on sitting near water ( trees are...
