Update on the Update: the carpet in this apartment is ruined. It needs to be replaced. Berkshire’s fix? Waive their *internal* $2,000 transfer fee and I pay all moving costs. And have to sign a new lease. That is unacceptable. Additionally, Berkshire employees continually enter my apartment during the day *with NO notice*. They have even used my toilet!! Utterly disgusting and a violation. I no longer feel secure here or like I have any privacy. And resident services? They will say the AC is not broken in the same breath they use to tell you someone is coming to fix it. Their communications are vague to the point of being useless. They don’t give you notice when contractors will be cutting a whole six foot hole in your wall. A WHOLE SIX FOOT HOLE. Their useless verbiage below that they want to help? Meaningless. Berkshire is the worst. And their email communications to residents come from about three different email accounts. So it is hard to search emails to ensure you catch notices - if any are sent. Memorial Day Weekend there was only 1 elevator working the entire weekend. No email about it until midday Tuesday. The emails consistently state 4 elevators are working when you can clearly see on the control panel only 3 work. How is this sound business practices? Move here at your own risk. Update: I’ve contacted them as they asked. I asked them to move me to another apartment that hasn’t been water damaged. I am not hopeful. I gave them proof of a medical condition. The “fixed” carpet has an air pocket in the area they never lifted. It pops down when you step on it. The carpet padding is varying thicknesses, like they used scraps, that you feel when walking on it. The carpet looks like it had open heart surgery with very visible intersecting glue lines bisecting the area into three quadrants. When you step on the glue line it hurts your foot - so no more barefoot walking IN THE LIVING DINING AREA. They are going to send the same people to look at the carpet that did the original work. I have no enjoyment when I come home. Just fear that mold is going to grow and adversely affect my health. Note: maintenance improperly fixed this same issue AND they do NOT have maintenance on site on the weekend. My apartment flooded for TWO HOURS until the guy could arrive from home. And the concierge said she could not ask him how to shut off the water. (Make it make sense.) I was turning the two shutoffs I saw under the sink. Who knew there was a third? And neither the concierge nor maintenance has access to keys outside of M-F 9-5. What if I wasn’t home? What if you move here and a pipe bursts and you aren’t home? It has to flood until you get home. Food for thought. I want them, among other things, to move me to another apartment that is not water damaged. And change these ridiculous policies. This is NOT luxury living. We had 24-hour maintenance and 24-hour lockout service for a few under Equity and CIM. ********** Do. Not. Move. Here. I’ve been here 13 years and my lease cannot end fast enough. The floor plan will hoodwink you. Do not let it. They do NOT have 24 hour maintenance. Ask me how I know! My washer/dryer flooded and would not stop over flowing. Maintenance is not on site on the weekend. IT WAS OVER TWO HOURS before maintenance came from his home. Not his fault. BERKSHIRE has this set up. Oh. What? You thought they would replace my carpet that has been SOAKED? Nope. This building has never been managed so poorly. Don’t get fooled. Make sure you see the basement of the North Tower with all the deodorizers and fly traps. See how not secure the building is because people let just anyone in at any time. The elevators are always broken. They enter your apartment “looking for signs of pest activity” with less than 24 hours notice. Like I can’t call you if there are pests. And there is no lock out service. If you are locked out and it is not M-F, 9-5, you have to call a locksmith. That will cost $400. Then BERKSHIRE will charge you $400 to fix the lock. Do 👏🏼 Not👏🏼 Move 👏🏼 Here👏🏼

I'm truly flabbergasted by how horrible the condition of every little thing is at this apartment complex. Starting with my move in, when I asked the concierge for help with opening the loading dock up for me, she sighed with discontent and says "That means I gotta walk all the way to the dock to open it up." She takes over 30 minutes after which I decide I would just manually take everything up the hard way since she didn't want to help with me getting the loading dock or service elevator even though it was available for use to move in. The concierge is not there to help much truly from my experience. Coming to the apartment itself, there is a HORRIBLE stench that makes you nauseous to the core that started coming after a few days into moving in. We were told that maintenance would come in first thing when I reached out to management, but thus far, I have hear no word from maintenance coming to resolve the issue. False promises that lead you nowhere again. When I went to work out in the gym in the south tower, half of the dumbbells were missing and half the equipment was broken. Needless to say, but broken gym equipment IS a safety hazard to residents, and it seems they do not care enough to resolve this either. Since I have moved in, the elevators have been giving me SO much trouble too. I have to wait a minimum of ten minutes half the time for an elevator, and it seems silly to say but the elevator is something I have to account for into my commute to work now. In addition to that, almost a month into moving in, and my key fob still does not properly work. When asking, I was told it was some sort of "wifi" issue, and while that may be true, I don't see why it still hasn't been fixed, and I do not even have immediate access into the building from the parking garage. Unfortunately, there is more. There are CONSTANTLY bugs that we keep finding in the apartment despite how clean we keep our unit, and we even found a mouse roaming around the apartment on the one of the TOP floors. I don't even know how it managed to get this high, but overall horrible experience in every way you can name it, and no one there to truly help make your experience better. The rent price is not even worth the horrors you have to deal with at this complex. I do not at all recommend. Choose wisely before moving in, and in fact, do not move in here. You will not feel safe and you will not be physically healthy due to the poor living conditions here. Making an edit to say I still hate it so much here. Now my key fob is having issues to get into the gym. I’m paying for amenities that I’m not even getting. They suggested I use the freight elevator but it’s not even available since people are moving in. I’m literally editing and writing this as I’ve been waiting for 10 minutes now to at least go back into my unit since I can’t get to the gym or any of the amenity spaces.

I lived in this place for four years between 2017 and 2021. When I moved in, the property was owned by Equity Residential. Then, in 2020, the ownership moved to CIM Group. Since the ownership changed, things went south in terms of management. For example, the online maintenance request system used by CIM is much worse than the one used by Equity. The package room’s rules have gone insane where residents of the same unit cannot pick up packages for one another. The security has become worse. Up to the time I left, the garage doors were mostly open all the time. But, I saw the worst of this management when I moved out. In fact, their stupid rules and lack of honsety were the main reasons I thought about moving out after I was only considering moving to a larger unit within the community. They asked for $2000 (after initially mentioning $300) to move me to another unit if I move before the end of my lease, even by a single month. One of their sales representatives (named Marvin) lied to us and claimed that the rents would go up to over $4K for the 3br unit over the summer to convince us to decide on moving quickly. He also lied to us that the low quality vinyl installed in the upgraded units was actually real wood imported from Sweden. I only thank their stupidity and dishonsty for making me think of ownership instead of leasing. After moving to a new place, I realized how terrible the quality of service and building maintenance in the Skyeline Towers is compared to surrounding similar communities. One of the big issues we had in the Towers were roaches and mice. Orkin, the pest management company, is a good one in my view. They were able to reduce roaches’ sightings in our apartment from many per day to only about 1 per month. However, for mice, they could not go far enough. The mice traps hardly worked. Something in the Towers I had never seen before (after twenty years of living in 12 different homes) is bathtub glazing. Probably, I never noticed it before because it was done with a good quality. That was not the case in the Towers. I am attaching a picture of how the glazing looked when I left my apartment. And, by the way, they charged me $175 for fixing it despite the obvious low quality of the glazing they used, which was not my fault. They also poorly handled my dispute and negotiation about this charge and threatened to send any remaining amount to collections if not paid in full. Update on 3/5/2022: I did pay my dues in full over two payments. They sent me an email receipt for one payment. I asked for a receipt for the other but never got one. Despite all of that I have just found out that they sent my whole "debt" to collections. Unbelievable!!!

Newer review: I wish I can give staff a zero star in concierge. Pool finally open and first day trying to get pool passes for my apartment. I'm main lease holder and went to concierge trying to get two pool passes for me and disabled family member. They give me a hard time in concierge the person sitting behind blue column and wall in concierge (they told me her name was Theresa and of course she wasn't wearing a badge, the other employee give me her name could it lie for her name), but recapping she was very rude to tell me a pass cannot be issue that my disabled family member have to come down and get it. Also another employee in front of her because of discussion the both had in the back so I couldn't hear, he tells me my child cannot go because not in lease. What the hell is this place?? Me and other parents that have arrangements to have certain days or weekend the kids and giving a hassle with children that they can't go to pool and hassle to main lease holder for stupid pool passes. Not only they charge guest parking pass $5 they also charge for visitor pool passes and push you to spend for your kid get pool passes. What the hell is this place? Either management are not training people properly, but overall the hell they pull on residents it's insane. Run away from here!!! I had my car towed from parking garage because tag sticker, apartment full of roaches that no matter how many times they come to fumigate you still see them walking. Also to have hassle for pool passes for your family member that is on lease and my kid when he comes. I'm sure people won't move to skyline only for view, as parents wants security for their kids, cleanness (which no matter if you clean roaches still walk in kitchen and also be on lookout daily for car that still remains in garage and not been towed. Make sure before you sign any page for this company or building you read letter by letter because they might give you something to sign and tell you something about rules that are not listed in lease or any other paper you sign. Regardless if maintenance issues is done in timely manner, if the concierge personnel will not give proper customer service and someone in leasing mention your kid can't go to pull because not being in lease is a disgrace, since I'm sure that specific employee have grandsons since she look older enough to be a grandmother needs to me more aware of leaseholders who have kids as well, cause most of the people in the community are parents. Overall look for another complex who have free parking, have a pool with no stupid rules, are more customer friendly and off course more clean (no roaches). I wish ceo of equity could come in person and see all this mess that’s why a lot of apartments will continue empty!!!

Past review:

Make sure you never move to this place or renew your lease in skyline towers. Inappropriately they towed my vehicle to pay $200 because the inspection was no properly displayed. When I sign my lease the paper for parking policy never stated about inspection or emission, only said NOT to park in reserved parking or to have always the parking sticker post in the window which I had. This place is very expensive, and they are always complains about roaches which I have also seen in my apartment. Customer service is a problem because they do not take care of this appropriately when the rules are not properly displayed when you sign the parking permit rules. Unless you are a millionaire to waste money that’s when I recommend you to move here, but keep in mind roaches walking in the middle of...

Important!! Before you tour here or decide to live here, read first. I’ve been compiling so much information in regard to this community. Living here for years you hear and see things. You experience things that, hell, I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I’m using a burner account because when you use your real information, they attack pointedly, they put others on notice that you’re a problem. This is all true, see for yourself. Currently there are only 2 elevators working in the north tower and the same in the south, people waiting upwards of a half hour or walking stairs. Otis hasn’t been here, there’s been no email talking about it because I reckon either they haven’t paid Otis or the two guys that are here are incompetent and can’t fix the issues, moving on. What they don’t tell you are the elevators are condemned, please see the orange stickers on the lobby level elevator doors. Remember last year that horrible smell in the basement a mix of trash and something else… well There is mold in the basement of the north tower. They did an “abatement” by changing ceiling tiles, however didn’t fix the leaks properly. The ceiling is leaning towards the garage exit and is soft to the touch. It will fall, queue lawsuits. There is black mold in the duct work, you can tell by the vents in the basement. The mold is crawling out, (ie they forgot to paint them) Instead of fixing the issues, they’re painting over mold. There was a water leak and instead of repairing all the water damaged drywall covered in mold they painted over it. I have photos and videos of them doing such. This whole community is a health hazard and we as a community need to react as such. We need to start reaching out to HUD, the ADA for Virginia because we have elderly, disabled and small children that deserve working elevators. Contact the attorney general of Virginia and let them know how we’re being treated as we pay our rent every month to have limited access to things we are paying for. Fight this fight everyone so we can make them stand up and take notice once and for all. Take photos, post the real photos not the ones they want to sugar coat things with. Don’t get me started on the ill behaved children and their parents. screaming to the top of their lungs, throwing food and trash on the ground and in the elevators. being allowed to run up and down the halls at all hours. the blatant disrespect when trying to do anything in a common area and their parents don’t care. The doors are broken because people tug and tug on them until they’re forced open. We’re told not to open doors to people who don’t have key fobs and we get yelled at because we won’t. Security is a joke, too busy playing with their phones to do anything. We’re not supposed to keep the back door propped open but it often is with a security guard standing by the freight elevator on his phone. People smoking on their balconies throwing their cigarette butts down to the ground could cause a fire one day or worse. damage to someone or something on another balcony. Be consistent Skyline and stop worrying about hosting events most of this place is Muslim and alcohol is forbidden, goodness sake just. take care of the buildings. I’d hate for people to see the two buildings condemned due to your negligence. Now you’re on notice 😁
