I am really disheartned to edit this review, especially because TapNRoll left a positive initial impression a year ago.
Most of my frustrations come from how TapNRoll handles constructive criticism. If the customer has a problem, the store should be able to listen with the hopes of finding a resolution that benefits everyone. TapNRoll fails in this area. The conflict/resolution skills are non-existent. You are more likely to be banned from the store than your problem to be resolved.
TapNRoll gave up trying to improve. It's content in the fact that is the only MTG premium store in the Hampton Roads area. This is what it looks like when a store becomes too big to listen to its customers.
I witnessed an employee yell at a customer with the store owner there and nothing was done about it in the moment. A different employee came to apologize for that disgusting interaction.
Even when TapNRoll is at fault, they will just ban players. They do not know how to follow rules (even when its their own rules) and when you ask why they cant tell you because the employee messed up. However, TapNRoll will double down and say its the players' fault due to their "negativity". I know exactly why this particular employee was not reprimanded, but I want to keep that part out of it. However, two other employees made similar mistakes and they were either fired or removed from hosting league night ever again.
The store owner has been heard many times saying that he hates Lorcana.
The first season of Lorcana's Organized Play (League) was fine. It was new. Everyone was learning. The players were getting charged 10 dollars for entry + pack at this time. The League was run by the store owner. The players were able to have alot of input and suggestions on how League should work.
The second season of League is when things started to go downhill. The owner took a step back from managing the League and left it mainly up to the players at this point. There was a designated player that managed and ran the league. A store employee was still there but it was minimal involvement. Well there was a mix up in the dates because of holidays and league ended a week early. Everyone was unsure of which week league was supposed to end so everyone was put to a vote. This decision was agreed upon by every person in the shop including the store employee. The store owner and the three players, who became store employees shortly after, flipped out. The store owner blamed the person running the league for ending a week early. This is litterally a customer and player getting blammed for the store not running their own league. This was a huge red flag but I overlooked it hoping to continue to foster good relations with the shop. Also, we were still paying the 10 dollars for pack + entry at this time.
The third season of league was ran by one of the players who were upset in the decision from season 2 and became a store employee. He did a decent job. There were a couple miscommunication errors between him, the owner, and the players. Overall, fine. We were now paying 5 dollars just for entry to play League.
The fourth season of League was where alot morr issues happened. For one thing, the store decided to completely overhaul league and make it a weekly competitive tournament going against what Ravensburger's vision for League was supposed to be which is a casual format. The employee from season 3 announced this in the discord (official communication between store and players) the day of League. Alot of people werent happy with this decision except 2 people. Well, TapNRoll tends to double down on their bad decisions and stuck with it for one League. We finally stopped paying for League which should have been free for 3 seasons now but the owner made it sound like he was doing us a favor.
Logic does not exist at TapNRoll. Decisions are purely based in an emotional response to justify their mistakes instead of just owning it...
Read moreExcellent locally owned and operated place for casual and competitive gamers alike. You can expect an inviting and enthusiastic gaming community, fair prices, good inventory, a clean store, and friendly, helpful staff. If you’re new to TCG or tabletop gaming they will get you set up to learn the ropes or they’ll find someone in their gaming community who can help you.
Store owner, Jeremy, is extremely personable, helpful, accommodating and open to all sorts of ideas. His passion for the business, and for fostering an excellent gaming community, is obvious from the moment you meet him.
It can get a bit packed in the store at times, which is really a testament to the enthusiasm that the owner, staff, patrons, and players have for this place. I am excited to see how they will continue to expand and grow on what they’ve already built.
I’m a Magic player, so most of my experience is with MtG events and players. The store has a very active commander community and also has standard events and sealed prerelease events. However, they also have active communities of players in other TCGs and tabletop RPGs so if you are looking for an LGS from which to get your gaming supplies, to meet new people that share your hobby, to participate in organized gaming events, or just to play casual games with other folks in the community, then I cannot recommend Tap n Roll highly enough.

Read moreThis was my first time visiting the store, as I’m not from the area. I’ll begin by saying that the store was very clean, well-organized, and was well stocked with a variety of products from many games and hobbies.
That being said, I didn’t have a great experience during my visit. I wasn’t greeted when I walked in, which is not a huge issue, but it didn’t help create a very welcoming atmosphere. While browsing, I started looking through what seemed to be a bulk box of Magic cards, as I had seen a few other customers doing previously. Shortly after, a man came up to me and rather rudely told me to not look through it without offering any explanation. I could only assume that he was an employee since no one else said a word to me about the incident.
This could have just been an off moment, but it left a poor...
